Very nice, but that filter is WAY too small for that many fish. It really needs to be 3-4 times as big. And there is very little water circulation. The pump should've been farther away from the filter to move water from one end to the other more. Overall very nice, but there should've been more thought into the filter. However, It's not too late. Just do a larger filter behind the wall and have a water fall cascade into it. It probably would look better too since, I think that big planter just sitting on top like that looks kind of weird (and unstable).

The pond overall is vastly too small for even one koi, let alone so many. There's virtually no room for them, and the recommended size is 1,000 gallons *minimum* per koi. Typical KZread, animal abuse for clicks.

I agree. The man has some excellent masonry skills, to be sure, but while the pond is done very well and is quite beautiful... it's not the proper enclosure for koi. The whole thing is maybe 1-2 thousand gallons, which is way too small for that many koi and the filter is woefully undersized. With no bottom drains, there's going to a lot of debris accumulation and I would expect the free ammonia would reach deadly levels within just a few days and the poor koi would be gone before the nitrite levels have a chance to cycle. This is especially true if the PH and water temperature are high (above 27 degrees C.) I love the fact he's using fired ceramic to create a pseudo Bakki shower, but the pond is going to crash biologically long before the media sees any nitrates. I would remove all of the koi and dose the pond with some Ammonium (NH4+) a little bit every day until you see the nitrite spike go to zero. This will get your cycle going without putting your koi at risk. Then add some baking soda to raise the KH to 8 dKH. That'll set the PH to a solid 8 and then you can add 2-4 koi depending on their size. Better yet, I would switch to African cichlids now that the pond has cycled. Stack some rock in the pond so the cichlids will feel comfortable. That'll keep them from fighting and look beautiful. With a little more filtration, you can easily go to 100 small Africans. Beautiful work, my friend.

Gave the fish a good ol' soap bath to prepare for a new home. I honestly thought they were dead in that container, they were very calm.

That is what the bio balls etc are in the jar. Obviously unless he added used ones with the bacteria already growing it wouldn’t be too effective but he may change the water a lot in the beginning.

The bananas leaves have tannins which probably help counteract the alkalinity in the cement. I have low ph in my pond I add a cement block. It helps neutralize the ph. He really needs to seal the cement as the ph will never be correct until it ages. He does add a filter with the bio balls etc in the jar. It gorgeous but probably has to age over time before it’s stable. The banana leaves also help with slime coat, they are anti fungal and antibacterial for the fish.
