How To Make Chip Shop MUSHY PEAS For National Mushy Pea Day! My Favourite Holiday!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

National Mushy Pea day is my favourite holiday - and during these dark days of Tory totalitarianism we have to try and derive as much pleasure as we can from any potential distraction. That's why I've been inspired to make chip shop mushy peas today. I just hope that you can all afford to cook them during these brutal times. And don't worry, there's no cancer causing colouring chemicals in my mushy peas so you'll be able to live a little bit longer if you eat these. At least until we're all wiped out by austerity anyway. Enjoy!

Shit, I haven't eaten mushy peas since I left Lancashire many years ago, and I'm old enough to remember English fish and chip shops before the days of curry sauce - it was salt and vinegar and that was about it. I remember, as a kid, relishing mushy peas with a plate of chips and a Holland's steak and kidney pudding in the tiny dining area in the back of the local chippie near Blackpool back in the day. Gonna have to look around to see if I can even find dried peas in the stores here in Colorado. Dried split peas are easy to find (and smoked hamhock and split pea soup is one of the great soups of the world) but I can't recall seeing whole peas anywhere.

Omg! As a Lanky northerner (now living in Yorkshire - but don’t judge please😮) Your post took me on an amazing trip down memory Lane! Hollands puddings, mushy peas and Blackpool (when it wasn’t a sh*t hole, sorry) - good 🎉times of sun, sea and fresh air, I think 😂 ** forgot to add - I can always look into buying dried (mushy) peas (cheap here, at the moment) and cost of sending to you?! Thanks for the trip 😅

Seems like a lot of Blackpuddlians watch your show Our Kid. I live in Ontario Canada, and am fortunate enough to have a grocery store that sells Bachelors Dried Peas. I make mine pretty much the same as you, except I put in a ham stock cube. I know, I know, I am a Rebel. I lived on Mereside estate, and after the Cherry Tree Gardens shut on a Saturday night. It was off to Charlie's chippy for Hollands steak and kidney pudding, chips and mushies. And watch The Untouchables. Fond memories. 'aye up!' From Vincent

What with triple cooked chips and curry sauce there's a good idea for a belting tea, I'm a bit wary of using steeping peas ever since I didn't rinse properly said peas free of bicarb of soda to make a pea and ham soup a lesson well learnt in my book

Indeed! Anti Tory rhetoric and a tasty Northern Dish....plus some funny innuendo. A brilliant and unique channel and as a former UK resident born and raised southerner, I love the anti tory rhetoric too, Rees Mogg and Bumbling Bonker Boris are really prime examples of why the UK is sinking into a massive economic mess. The country it seems only exists to help the ultra rich get richer. The people were simply slaves to serve and fight in the wars for the private colonial companies. So laughing at the tories while we all cook heart warming British scran for me is a way to manage the dissapoinent I have for the country I was born in.
