How to Make Cast Resin Skull Knife Handles Scales with TotalBoat Thickset Resin
How to Make Cast Resin Skull Knife Handles Scales with TotalBoat Thickset Resin
In this exciting tutorial, Dan Berg from Bergknifemaking.com unveils the fascinating process of crafting exceptional cast skull knife scales or handles using TotalBoat Thickset Epoxy. Watch as we take you step by step through the creation of a silicone mold and casting of intricate, miniature skulls with resin. Utilizing the remarkable properties of thickset resin, we carefully remove the hardened skulls from our homemade molds and cast them into crystal-clear resin, resulting in truly one-of-a-kind skull knife handles. Don't forget to follow our expert tip of mixing the resin slowly to prevent the formation of micro bubbles. Patience is key, as we recommend allowing the epoxy to set for 24 to 48 hours in the mold and 5 to 7 days for proper polishing. Get ready to unleash your creativity and elevate your knife-making skills with this mesmerizing resin casting technique! Visit www.Bergknifemaking.com for more exciting projects and resources.

Thank you! Cheers!
Haven’t watched your videos for a couple years so I was happy to see you still doing knife making videos. I always liked the skull theme and those scales came out perfect! Absolutely love them! Great job and perseverance. Total Boat resins are from a boat building shop I had visited for decades when I built boats. Great little shop on Jamestown in the really nice little village by the water.

This was a fun one! It looks awesome!
Cool effect, tks for sharing........ I just recently bought some glow in the dark skull beads, and although I’m not a knife maker, this gave me an idea for the custom slingshots I craft.

Very nice.
Awesome
See there,,,I told you,you could do it. I’d sure tape that blade up. One slip on that 2x72 would make for a bad day. Great job brother.

Thanks, I know but in reality when I mess up a little painters tape is not going to save anything LOL

@@DIYeasycrafts I dropped a knife before and it messed the tip up and had to be repaired. From then on I tape the blade.
Very very cool!

Why not sand down the back of the skulls to make them thinner???
My friend those are absolutely awesome. Excellent work and finished product. I make custom knives, how would I go about purchasing a couple sets of those scales ?

Those turned out great. Thanks for the tips! 😊 Approximately how many scales of that size can you make out of the 1.3 quart kit?

@@DIYeasycrafts Thanks! I was just curious because it's rather expensive. That would work out to a little over ten dollars a set which would be worth it imo.

Looks fantastic! Where do you get your molds?
