As a Southerner, I appreciate your lessons and your voice!

I do a lot of other things where a sealer is needed and I would like to add that I would recommend you get a spray sealer that contains UV blockers. That will help with the sun fading the decal. The MinWax is great but you may need to experiment with different sealers as they may react differently to different brands of ink. Epson, Canon, HP and others don't use the same formula for ink. I'm sure there is some sort of standard, but I'm not sure. Also, if you don't have a second person to help make sure the decal is straight, you can use blue or green painters tape to put a line on your window or car where you want to place the decal. Step back and see what adjustments need to be made and make them. Now you know exactly where/how to place the decal so it's straight.

If you spray the surface with water with a couple of drops of dish detergent, it allows you to move the decal to the best position, then burnish to get the water out and leave to dry.

Oh my gosh girl… I don’t know how I came across this video that is a year old! But let me tell you a learn more in this one than that I have and from anyone else I really relate to you a lot! Hey John, I build car models as well.....and 1/10 RC cars. I used low tack vinyl to make airbrush stencils for my 1/10 RC bodies. Cricut sells their own brand, but any brand of ‘temporary’ or low tack vinyl will work.

I’m curious! What brand of “permanent” vinyl would you recommend for car decals? Also if I’m selling them I wouldn’t want the Cricut logo on the transfer tape so what would you recommend using?

You can use any make transfer tape, it doesn’t have to be Cricut.

No. you don't mirror when using adhesive vinyl

Like wise the reverse advice if you've got a tougher than normal bend. Use a heat gun to stretch the vinyl.

Thank you for the video! I’m fairly new to the “Cricut world” so I have a quick question. What’s the difference/advantage between printing the one out from a regular printer, making that a sticker vs. cutting the second one on the Cricut machine? I have several svg files that I wondered how they were going to look “cut out” vs. printed as is. Obviously, I was thinking everything had to be cut but I like the idea of printing the image and making that the sticker! Seems you can have more detail with the printed images. Thank you!

Cricut has a feature called print then cut. If you set your images in design space as print then cut, you can print your image from your printer and then your cricut will cut it out. This allows your cricut to be able to cut out multicolor images. KZread “cricut print then cut” for more details.

There are lots of different brands too. Look for printable sticker paper. Enjoy..

I bought a Cricut explore air 2 recently and am looking up all the different things I can do with it and this video was such a huge help! I have two questions, though. If doing the print-then-cut method, can I use any printer or does it have to be a specific kind (Inkjet, laser, etc)? And If you were to send these to someone would you send it with the transfer tape on the front so they can peel and stick or would you just send the decal on the backing and they could choose to use transfer tape or not?

Good questions! Any Inkjet printer works great with print then cut :) We recommend sending them with the transfer tape at least included if not already on the decal. Happy crafting!

Hi, I'm curious as to how quickly your decals fade in the sun being that they're on a car. Does that spray actually protect against that long term? Especially since your using a dye-ink printer, those inks fade within days of sun exposure.

Thank you for the video, I just came across it. Can these be applied directly to the paint, like on a door, gas tank of a motorcycle?

I will be attempting car decals soon and just wanted to ask….did you print with sublimation ink or regular printer ink?

If I want to make a multicolored or layered decal would the best option be the print version? If possible I’d prefer just using my machine. But I’ve only done single layer cuts so far. I want to make a cute Yeti sticker for my mom’s car. I can do single layer but it’d be cool to try a multi color/layer.

What is the best kind of printer to use, Laser or Deskjet? Btw, thank you for this tutorial!

I'm just going to say, Deskjet, because the Laser will NOT work on Vinyl!

With the limited number of colors; would it not make more sense to cut the design out of a matching color of vinyl? It would remove any need for sealing the printer ink.

for the printable decal not quite sure in how you place on car.... can u send a video in how you put the printable one on? i love that it was very helpful TY.

The tail was printed on printable sticker paper so you can do it any color, the bear was done on white permanent vinyl.

We would recommend the spray version over the brush on for simply sealing the decals :)

With so much ice and snow scrapping here, I would like to put decal on inside of vehicle. Would you mirror image to be able to do that ??

The issue with placing adhesive vinyl on the inside of the window is that it will show lots of bubbles under the glass. Also, you cannot place a printable vinyl inside the car and hope to see it on the outside.

What cord are you using with your iPad?

Great question! Yes, they do! I had these on my car for over 2 years until I sold my car and then I had to remove them myself.

Can you put the cricut printable vinyl in a sublimation printer?

It is sticky on the back, just like regular adhesive vinyl! Cricut Printable Vinyl: amzn.to/3bC84R7 . You sometimes need transfer tape with it, yes. We recommend this kind because it is gentle on the printable vinyl and wont peel up any ink: Masking Paper Transfer Tape: amzn.to/3bB57jJ

I have a question for all. I need to print full color stickers that are 11.5 x 11.5. for my projects. Can the Cricut Maker Machine do that? And do I need to get a large format printer and if so what printer should I get Budget-minded.

Cricut Print then Cut is a max of 6.75"x9.25" unfortunately. The printer we like is this one: Canon TS9120 Printer: amzn.to/2zsSdGt

Good question. I would assume so, yes. However, we do not want to give detailed advice on other products that we have not used. We always use Cricut Printable Vinyl because it's a great product (and we don't love many of Cricuts' products, so that's saying something), and it's never given us any issues. Other brands could require other procedures. But I would guess you could seal other brands as well :)

Can you use premium matte vinyl instead of the permanent vinyl??

Yes! I have premium on the back window of my vehicle now. I like it better on my windows because it scrapes off easier.

I wondered the same thing. I want to be able to take if off easily. also I wonder if you mirror it if you could put it on the inside of the car window vs the outside.

So when making these, let’s say I have the printable vinyl, I was thinking I’d have to laminate the sticker to make it waterproof so it won’t mess up on the car. would this spray be protecting the sticker like that?

Do you know which type of laminate paper you would use on top of the sticker? I did the exact same thing as her and when I went to try sprinkle so water on it the whole picture smeared off 😭

Yes, you do not have to use the Cricut to cut it, feel free to hand cut it if you want.

I have done very little with my cricut. Could you explain what kind of vinyl you used? Is there a certain kind for outdoor? Also about the printer does it matter if inkjet or laser?

We used regular adhesive vinyl, along with Cricut printable vinyl. The printer must b ink jet :)

So all you need is vinyl and transfer tape & it would be weatherproof? Or do you also need to seal it once it is on the window with the spray?

We recommend leaving your Explore Air 2 knob on "custom" and changing the material settings in Design Space. For the Printable Vinyl, set it to "Printable Vinyl" :)

We'r using an iPad 6th generation here, but anything newer works as well. We are an Apple company so we use MAC laptops mostly, but most good-quality devices work great :)
