Never heard of this method for knitting cables before and i have been knitting for decades. I absolutely love the way it makes the cables pop. Thank you for this tutorial! I am always learning something new every time i watch your videos ❤
Love this. Since I knit in the round, I would love to see a video showing how to do this on circular needles.

And how about different kinds of cabling like lattice. Same principle?
@10rowsaday

The idea is the same for working back and forth and for working in the round. The only difference - in the round that comes after you add ghost stitches, you would need to purl yarn overs (instead of knitting them) and purl into the front and back of the stitches (instead of knitting). Happy knitting!

Hi! Thank you for this. Isn't knitting amazing, what you can do with two sticks and a string. And it continues to evolve, how wonderful.

This makes the cables pop and also look so much more professional. I'll definitely give this a go.
While looking for a method for creating a cable with a steep angle, I think this is it! This looks amazing and I can't wait to try this.
Just lovely! And, as always, explained perfectly. Thank you.
That was probably my favorite tutorial of yours so far. I love the added dimension and the lack of holes alongside the cable. I am half way through a cabled blanket. I only wish I had learned your cable method before now. Thank you so much.

Wonderful! I am planning to use textured cables (half stockinette and half seed stitch) on a new coat project and want more distinction between the seed stitch and the background reverse stockinette. Hopefully this does the trick. As usual, your demonstration and explanation of the technique are always clear and succinct. Thank you so much!
FANTASTIC! How beatiful and easy to make. Thank you. 😁
Hi Maryna. What an amazing technique! You always come up with the most interesting tutorials! Thanks so much for sharing this with us! Have a wonderful weekend!💞
Thank you. This is surprisingly my first time hearing about ghost stitch cabling. It's beautiful. #ghoststitchcabling
Wow what a difference that makes. My cables will be changed forever now. Thank you for your brilliant way of teaching. I really enjoy alk your podcasts. You are fantastic!

Insanely brilliant! Now I want to start a project with cables. Hmmm.....
Wow! I love it - I am going to do a cable jumper so I can use it.
Very nice, thanks for sharing this... I really like your tutorials :)
Thank you. I found written instructions of this method but my almost 3 years of knitting brain couldn't make heads or tales of what she was saying for the increases to get started. I'm super grateful you made this!

Coincidentally was wondering about this last night. I thought i-cord in cables would create depth but this is a far more elegant solution!

Your demos are always wonderful. I'd tried to take a class with Assia Brill but she sells out in a heartbeat. Thanks for showing us the tricks!
The very reason I learned to knit was my love of cables, and anything that makes them even more beautiful is magical! Thank you for sharing this and explaining it so clearly. Off to my stash, I need to try this!
This is so brilliant! Your video popped up in my notification bar just as I was finishing the ribbing of my Dad's birthday cable hat Thank you so much!
WOW. A new technique. Thank you so much. I love the sculptured look of these cables.
Wow, very nice! Thank you. Also, your vocabulary and way of speaking is very precise and you are a joy to listen to. Clearly a lady of great intelligence.

This is magical! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this brilliant technique! I don't do cables often, but I have found that sometimes my yarn doesn't have the "strength" to hold the texture that makes the cables stand out and be noticed as I was expecting them to. This is a wonderful way to use whatever yarn I choose, while still gaining the impact that "stand-out" cables are wont to have. :)
This is lovely, thank you for sharing! Is there a way to use this technique in the round? I usually only work with circular needles and I'd love to be able to be able to try!

Those cables look lovely! How does this affect the gauge? Would we still cast on the expected number of stitches, then add the ghost stitches? Won't this affect the width of the work? Sorry, but I'm struggling to get my head round how this works!!! 😅

Hi Sally. Yes, we start with the number of stitches recommended in the pattern. We add the ghost stitches in the first right-side row of the cable, and remove them in the last right-side row of the cable. After the ghost stitches are gone, the number of stitches is back to the number stated in the pattern. I hope this explanation helps :-) Happy knitting!

Can I clarify? you only add the ghost stitches at the start of the project and only remove them at the end? Love it!
@10rowsaday

That's right, Gill. We start with the number of stitches recommended in the pattern, and once the ghost stitches disappear, we get back to that same number of stitches. Happy knitting :-)
Does this method affect the tension? I love this method. Thank you for sharing.
@macareuxmoine

I would assume it doesn’t because the stitches are ‚soaked up‘ in the texture of the piece, they shouldn’t be able to add much to the width. But we have to wait for her answer.

If you flatten the cable, the gauge will change. But because those extra stitches "prop" the cable giving it a 3D texture, the difference in gauge is not visible when the cable is relaxed.
Thanks

This is fascinating--I've never heard of this technique before! I do have a question: what do you do when the cable changes? Ex. you just completed a 2/2 LC, but on the next RS rw it's a 2/1 LC...so on the needles you'd have a gs, 2 k sts, gs, gs, 2 k sts, gs, but to complete the 2/1 LC you'd need gs, 1 k st, gs, gs, 2 k sts, gs. How do you get the first gs into the correct position? I'm about to start Nora Gaughan's Deliciosa pullover and I'd love to try this technique but the motif is organic so the cables change sizes quite a bit from one RS rw to the next. Thanks so much; your tutorials are always so clear and to-the-point and I so appreciate it!
@10rowsaday
4 күн бұрын
Hi Stacey, this method would definitely make Deliciosa cable pattern stand out. But you are right - that particular design is quite complicated. It is best to test the parts where cables change on a swatch to see how that transition looks with ghost stitches. In fact, I am quite curious how the ghost stitches will behave in those cases. If you discover some interesting tendencies, please, let me know. Many thanks :-)
Would this work for a 1x1 cable or would it be too bulky to add stitches (like for socks)?
@10rowsaday
7 ай бұрын
This method does add bulk to cables, so I probably would not use it on cabled socks unless these are chunky socks that we wear instead of slippers. As to 1x1 cables, a lot depends on the yarn and the effect you'd like to achieve. The best way to know is to make a small swatch. Happy knitting!
