@@DIOWORKbyErikWestberg correct yes, I fear a black wash will alter the bricks even when varnished Edit: I tried a wash and it unfortunately darkened many of the bricks, what would you suggest to re-lighten them?

@@Salted_Tequila You will have to use a wash and only place it on the mortar, not over the hole wall. It’s not a quick fix, to make it good you will spend some time. Mortar on a wall usually have different colors, light on top and darker near ground. Next time if you want darker mortar you could add paint in the putty before you place it on the bricks. /Erik

I just sent you the same exact text on another video. This is the best.i made a sped up version of this just to see how it came out, different color of the bricks is so obvious but i wouldnt have done it unless i saw it👍

Have you tried tile grout for mortar? I think it’s more to scale.. your wall/bricks looks great though.

@@DIOWORKbyErikWestberg 2 ways of doing. One is mix with your water and color, apply and wipe off.. like you did here. Another is to put over bricks dry and work in with brush. Then use a damp sponge to wipe off. The water in sponge activates the grout. You’ll just need grout in color you want. I like second method as it looks best for me. I’d give it a shot on a scrap piece.

Can I ask, what dimensions you use for your doorways? Ive measured my door at home, and scaled it to 1/35th, but it looks far too small!!! Great work, and a great video too. Regards Andy

Hi Andy, I always try to use real dimensions on all parts. If you build a building out of foam and all dimensions are correctly in 1:35 scale then it is correct. It could be a problem if the figures you are using are a bit large for their scale. For example Verlinden figures are quite big compared to other manufacturers. If you think it look to small for your taste, then enlarge 10%, but never more than that. That is my opinion. /Erik

Thanks a lot Chris! I used 10 mm styrofoam, but technically the thickness doesn’t care, as long as it is over 3 mm. 10 mm works fine if you want to build a wall as well. /Erik

@@justinhealey2408 I’ve found the foam at HOBBY LOBBY or MICHAELS... Also google how to remove the paper off the foam core...I used mineral spirits with a cotton ball... also use rubber cloves for your hands... I cut the foam core to a rough size to what I’m going to need... Again google how to remove paper off of the foam core... It comes in 2ft x 3ft.. I use the BLACK FOAM JUST MADE A BRICK LINED STREET DIORAMA...keep looking at the videos it really helped... CHRIS from Ohio

Easy answer, I love the way the grout/mortar blend and weathering the painted bricks. Afterwards you can repaint some of the bricks to make them pop out. Anyway, this is the way I prefer to do it. You do as you want:) /Erik

One more thing, if you paint all the bricks after you applied the grout, there is a risk of getting a lot of brick color between the bricks on the grout, and that is a big NO NO I think. Cheers

How thick is the styrofoam?

Hi, the styrofoam I use for walls on buildings is normally 10 mm. You could use 3 or 5 mm as well and glue the styrofoam on another cheaper material. /Erik

I think they are about 2 x 7 mm. But that not interesting. You do what ever size you want, just check real bricks and take measurements of them and divide in 35. /Erik

One more thing, if you paint all the bricks after you applied the grout, there is a risk of getting a lot of brick color between the bricks on the grout, and that is a big NO NO I think. Cheers
How thick is the styrofoam?

Hi, the styrofoam I use for walls on buildings is normally 10 mm. You could use 3 or 5 mm as well and glue the styrofoam on another cheaper material. /Erik

I think they are about 2 x 7 mm. But that not interesting. You do what ever size you want, just check real bricks and take measurements of them and divide in 35. /Erik
