What a concise, straightforward, and wonderful tutorial! I'm in the realm of historical costuming (but I'm going into less history rooted cosplay bc I shouldn't pigeon-hole myself) and this is such a nice and refreshing video! I've had this preconceived notion that cosplay and all is high level and basically couture level tailoring/sewing supremacy, and no offense but the "oh just hot glue this, make it not function for the ✨aesthetic✨" is such a breakthrough for me, personally! Making it work with what you have, and it still looking amazing in the end is awesome! I bought some shoes for a ren fair cosplay, and I'm going to extend the top to fit like a 17th century styled boot and now I can make a cover over it with this amazing tutorial! Such wonderful work, loving this!

Great work. One thing I learned while learning how to use fabric paint for a shirt I am making for my upcoming cosplay is if you are using acrylic on fabric, make sure to mix it with a Fabric medium, this allows the paint to be more flexible and less prone to cracking. I saw it being sold at joann fabrics in case you didnt know that :)

Thank you for making this video! I'm hoping to cosplay Akko from LWA, and was so lost on how to do the boots! Question: how do the boot covers stay up? Do they not fall down when you're walking? Thanks again!

Hi! yes they stay up on their own. However Im looking at reference for Akko and you should probably use foam as a base because that specific design at the knees has nothing to support it and will flop over.

I'm probably late but adding boning to your boots cover is feasible too :D

I used cotton fabric I had laying around. I used angelus leather paints in the colour buttercup. You can use acrylic. It’s cheaper and would turn out the same. I just had the leather paint because I initially thought I was going to paint the boot directly

Can you do this with flat shoes like Converse

  • @trinianimecosplay961

you can go it on any shoe, however if you plan on bringing the height up, you would need some kind of reinforcement to keep it up if its loose fitting around the calves. if its tight and you use a spandex/ stretch material material then no need for reinforcement.

Unfortunately I don’t because shoe sizes vary a lot by brands, so making them for someone else is very tricky. If they don’t fit, then all that hard work and money goes down the drain ☹️
