Watching you from cali. I am Egyptian and we make something similar called “feta bil tamatim”. Where we chop tomatoes, jalapaneo, feta, olive oil, salt and pepper and eat it in a pita bread. Yummy. Thanks for your videos.

My I suggest a slightly different version? Try pouring the oil straight on the rusk, a small pinch of salt and add a drop or two of wine vinegar. You'll love it!
Life is simple but good, in Greece. I usually watch you from the USA, but for the summer I’m in Greece now.
Kalimera from an ambulance 🚑 in Athens Greece 🇬🇷 You are one of us, my friend . Greek Ntakos are the best!!! Share more traditional, easy appetizers in English for friends abroad. Kalimeraaaaa

Yum! This is my usual lunch during Australian summers. I buy the same rusks over at Oakleigh which is the Greek suburb here in Melbourne, tomatoes, olives and oregano from my parents garden. Greek fetta cheese only and all drizzled with olive oil from Crete. We are lucky to have lots of the great Greek produce here in Australia!

@@VoltesWithElias fab!!! I love it there. I like that everyone is outside enjoying coffees and the sunshine when it’s out. There’s always a vibe.
I also pour olive oil AND origano straight on the rusk, it makes the rusk much more tastier! Also, some times i add anise seeds! it's not part of dakos recipe originally, but i tried it once and i enjoyed it!
I would like to try this. I have never heard of rusk in the US or Canada. Maybe they have it here in Germany where we are living for now. I will have a look!

It's easy to make your own rusks. Just slice your bread of choice (barley or whole grain are the best for dakos), arrange the slices in an oven dish, sprinkle with olive oil, a pinch of salt (and any spice you like) and bake for 12-15 minutes in 180C - 350F or until really dry and crispy. Also, this is a great way to use stale bread and enjoy with any kind of assortment. Enjoy!

Just came across your videos. Being from Crete Dakos is always a favourite in my house. Great video and channel. 🇬🇷 Currently watching from Australia.
Greetings from Cyprus
This the Greek version of Bruschetta, looks really good!
And the missing part issssss Tsipouro!!! Your advice is higly appreciated!!!
On this very hot day in Europe I just made some Dakos. Excellent, thank you very much for the recipe! And strawberries afterwards …😋
From Toronto, Canada. The music is great my man
some dakos, tsipouro and listening to the kafeneio story.............!!!
Excellent video! The motorbikes! Takes me back to the balconies of Patras when I would visit my cousins. I've never had Dakos. It's on my list to make this summer if I can find nice enough tomatoes in Chicago. Found your channel a couple weeks ago. Love it!
Kalimera Daniel and thank you for making feel I’m in Crete my hometown with the Takos dish. As we see the biscuits are made in Crete my way of doing it is to soak the biscuit it in the little water but then put the oil first so it will soak in the biscuit will give it more flavor and taste add diced onions and tomatoes with *(μυζήθρα -mizithra) Cretan cheese cramps and and congratulations Venezuela 🇻🇪 won Mexico 🇲🇽 1-0 in the Copa America ⚽️ I saw the game 🎉 you’re to visit Chania Crete in October my hometown there you’ll have more Cretan Raki as I see you and I look alike as I see you remind myself 40 years younger.. great video bravo 👏🏻
Α βρε μπαγάσα, με 'κανες και πείνασα.! 👍
🏴🙏 excellent video on how to make dakus
There is no such thing as "too much olive oil" in Greek cuisine, Daniel, you know that!
Looks great. Instead of the rusks I just use very thick home made wholemeal bread and toast it a couple of times (or use stale).
Great video. Wish we were there. 🇬🇷
I like your channel. We will be in Nafplion in two weeks. We have been going for the last 4 years.
Καλό
If you can’t find rusk at your supermarket. Buy a good sourdough let it go stale and then throw it in the oven and bake it for like 20m when it cools you have rusk
Simple but very tasty. A wonderful snack for lunch. I often make Cretan Ntakos back here in England but use toasted Bruschetta as the Rusks are hard to find. I also grate the tomato as it gets rid of the skin.
I just love your videos. I feel like im there. It's become my favourite channel. Greetings from Adelaide South Australia
Great stuff!
Que delícia! Tentarei fazer em casa
Sorry mate but I have to make some remarks. The way that you grade the tomato you are practically wasting it. This way you only get the water of the tomato and the seeds and not the flesh. I suggest to cut the tomato in half first, remove the stem, grab it firmly with you whole hand and grade it until all is left is the skin. This way you will have double the flavour, the taste, and quantity of tomato on you paksimadi. We can also add capers on top.
Great soundtrack on this video, particularly the part on the balcony.
Two, please 🙏. shipped to Utah.
I like the pattern on your plate
Daniel, Thank you for sharing. I've not seen this prepared by my Greek family, though I think this is very Cretan. My family is from Peleponesos. This looks delicious and I need to try it.
Looks delicious! I can almost smell it! Thanks for another great video!
I think it's quite important to use extra virgin (which should be green, not yellow) when you're going to have it raw, it's another level of taste explosion. Greetings from neighbouring Argos 😊
0:55 Add a pinch of salt and a bit of olive oil on ntakos before having the tomato on, it makes a difference.
hey first like!! lol
Tsipouro ✌️
I put kappari piperia kai kremidi kai feta elies kai avokado😊
Hi. Nice traditional dish. Couple of tips for improvement. Cretan mizithra is more preferable than feta. It's more creamy and less sour. Olives always with the seed on. If you like them chopped then just do it on site. Seedless olive is sacrilege. Καλή όρεξη φίλε!
Tsipouro goes also fine without dako.
Give this man honourably citizenship, he has been proven worthy!
My Chanian colleagues at work would have screamed at you for putting Feta instead of Mizithra 😂
Is this for lunch, a snack or both Daniel?

Η κάπαρη και δυο φίλα βασιλικό από πάνω του λείπουν. Πολυ νόστιμο φαίνεται
No garlic?
Here in UK the tomatoes you get have no flavour unlike Greek tomatoes which are sweet and juicy. When I make takos I slow cook in the oven a whole tray of tomatoes covered with olive oil and rigani which makes them much sweeter.
A small piece of advice, irrelevant to the video: Talk Spanish to your kids as much as possible. It's a pity to have a native speaker in the house and not get exposed to it. Greek, OK they live gere, English, they'll pick up one way or the other... Spanish is so useful and beautiful, they need to be exposed to it from now.
What’s missing: chili I love to eat them dry too!
Why water for the bread? Tomato juice would be better I bet.
8/10 , One point for the rusk and another for the oil salt oregano trifecta , all three just after weting the rusk is too industrialised
camerawork was fantastic in this video....music not so good just a joke my friend.....
What is rusk please?
blend the tomatoes with onion, oregano and olive oil with a blender. put the mixture in the fridge so it sets. then pour it over the dako add the feta on top! Perrrrfeccct
Nies food 😅 Jan danmark trawel manny times in greek ❤
Great video as always. Just one thing. Please stop calling tsipouro cheapouro. Unless it's the cheap stuff of course haha ;)
Στα Σφακιά βάζουμε ξινομυζήθρα.
