Watching you from cali. I am Egyptian and we make something similar called “feta bil tamatim”. Where we chop tomatoes, jalapaneo, feta, olive oil, salt and pepper and eat it in a pita bread. Yummy. Thanks for your videos.

My I suggest a slightly different version? Try pouring the oil straight on the rusk, a small pinch of salt and add a drop or two of wine vinegar. You'll love it!

Yum! This is my usual lunch during Australian summers. I buy the same rusks over at Oakleigh which is the Greek suburb here in Melbourne, tomatoes, olives and oregano from my parents garden. Greek fetta cheese only and all drizzled with olive oil from Crete. We are lucky to have lots of the great Greek produce here in Australia!

I also pour olive oil AND origano straight on the rusk, it makes the rusk much more tastier! Also, some times i add anise seeds! it's not part of dakos recipe originally, but i tried it once and i enjoyed it!

It's easy to make your own rusks. Just slice your bread of choice (barley or whole grain are the best for dakos), arrange the slices in an oven dish, sprinkle with olive oil, a pinch of salt (and any spice you like) and bake for 12-15 minutes in 180C - 350F or until really dry and crispy. Also, this is a great way to use stale bread and enjoy with any kind of assortment. Enjoy!

Kalimera Daniel and thank you for making feel I’m in Crete my hometown with the Takos dish. As we see the biscuits are made in Crete my way of doing it is to soak the biscuit it in the little water but then put the oil first so it will soak in the biscuit will give it more flavor and taste add diced onions and tomatoes with *(μυζήθρα -mizithra) Cretan cheese cramps and and congratulations Venezuela 🇻🇪 won Mexico 🇲🇽 1-0 in the Copa America ⚽️ I saw the game 🎉 you’re to visit Chania Crete in October my hometown there you’ll have more Cretan Raki as I see you and I look alike as I see you remind myself 40 years younger.. great video bravo 👏🏻

If you can’t find rusk at your supermarket. Buy a good sourdough let it go stale and then throw it in the oven and bake it for like 20m when it cools you have rusk

Simple but very tasty. A wonderful snack for lunch. I often make Cretan Ntakos back here in England but use toasted Bruschetta as the Rusks are hard to find. I also grate the tomato as it gets rid of the skin.

Sorry mate but I have to make some remarks. The way that you grade the tomato you are practically wasting it. This way you only get the water of the tomato and the seeds and not the flesh. I suggest to cut the tomato in half first, remove the stem, grab it firmly with you whole hand and grade it until all is left is the skin. This way you will have double the flavour, the taste, and quantity of tomato on you paksimadi. We can also add capers on top.

Hi. Nice traditional dish. Couple of tips for improvement. Cretan mizithra is more preferable than feta. It's more creamy and less sour. Olives always with the seed on. If you like them chopped then just do it on site. Seedless olive is sacrilege. Καλή όρεξη φίλε!

Here in UK the tomatoes you get have no flavour unlike Greek tomatoes which are sweet and juicy. When I make takos I slow cook in the oven a whole tray of tomatoes covered with olive oil and rigani which makes them much sweeter.

A small piece of advice, irrelevant to the video: Talk Spanish to your kids as much as possible. It's a pity to have a native speaker in the house and not get exposed to it. Greek, OK they live gere, English, they'll pick up one way or the other... Spanish is so useful and beautiful, they need to be exposed to it from now.
