Thanks for an interesting well put together video. Another twist to this is to use a radio transmitter on a tray with neck strap. The neck strap greatly helps with throws as my radio transmitter is always securely against my left hand through the whole motion. I always throw my planes with my right arm and my left hand on the throttle stick for smooth engagement of the throttle after launch. It feels awkward without my radio tray.

Good explanation! I also throw my wings for quite a while using both same techniques. Just to keep my fingers far away from the prop. Key for a proper side throw is not brute force but if you start, moving arm and body backwards, the wrist must turn forwards! At the end of the throw, arm and body forwards, the wrist must turn backwards. Just as you show. This is just opposite of throwing a frisbee and I really had to learn this new different turn of the wrist. Keeping remembering the plane not a frisbee.🙂

Thanks for your great video over head trow is the best method for me with big model as long as you keep your arms straight there is no danger the propeller wont hit your face and as a bonus your fingers are outside the arc of the prop for smaller wing like the reptile s800 i prefered the side toss

yep exactly. Although there are still planes like the Skywalker X-8 that is so big and runs a 12" blade, I would not over head launch. For this size I would only do a dart throw with a grip at the bottom.

Depending on the wind I'll do the single hand launch but if there's no wind I do the over head. Is it ok in inav to leave the launch angle at 180 so I can do either on same plane?

Great work! I think my launch technique is good, but my launch settings are too agressive. Usually does a 90 degree turn and a little torque steer everytime. Your launches are textbook examples!

Watch a video Darren does. For launch throttle, hold your plane vertical (carefully) and see what throttle setting you need for it to slightly push into your hand. A little more then a hover. Set that as your second stage after idle throttle value in INAV auto launch.

Hi. The PIDs are the default INAV PIDs. Just autotune FF and rates it and you are fine.

The overhead throw was the mostl sexy throw in my opinion.

with the gopro in there as in the video, the cg is about 7-8mm forward from the center of the marks.

PSA always always launch into the wind…

you cant beat the Hoff Grip for launching a Dart XL.

i launch all my wings overhead.... NEVER had a problem, the only except to that rule is the F27 evo cus it has finger holds and just flies outta my hand. the trick with the overhead launch is as your wing comes up to your face you take a step back and that moves your body away from the plane more than enough by the time your arms are level with your face
