How to Make an RV Insulated Skylight Cover

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

RVing in the cold presents all types of challenges where some are easier to overcome than others! To make heating our RV the most efficient it can be, I always stuff insulated 'pillows' into the 2 vent openings in my ceiling to prevent heat loss. Another area of heat loss is thru the large skylight in my shower. When nothing was available commercially, today I show you how I made an Insulated Skylight Cover!

That’s a real good job looks like you bought it in the store.

Nice work. I purchased one of these for our shower and it kept falling out due to the curved upper surface so I returned it. I've go 2 pillow type in my 5th wheel, and I'll be making one of these for our shower. We FT and winter over in IN where it got to -17 last winter so having the skylights covered will certainly help.

$52 for that poly panel? Plus the added cost of the Camco window insulation. Think I’ll use a piece of luan plywood and wrap it in reflectix for about $20 all in.

I made one of these for my travel trailer shower skylight. I was concerned the UV rays would cause damage and to keep the extreme heat out during the summer. I like the foam core and the handle idea. I would have never thought of that. Thanks.

I like it. I have the shade and foil tape on hand. I believe I will dry fit it before adding the foil tape to the final product. Thinkin' I need to cheat by about 1/8" off the plastic ??

What measurements did you use to allow for snug fit or does the foil wrap compress and expand to stay in place?

Cut panel to fit and let wrap cause the press fit!

Yes. Don't touch the surface of the window after you remove it though. If it is still hot and sunny outside, the window surface can severely burn you.
