How to make an Origami Icosahedron - Triangle Edge modules
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
For quite some time I did not know the name (and as a result wasn't able to track down the diagram) of this modular classic. I first saw it on Mark Rowes's channel and already know for some time now that this regular icosahedron was made out of Triangle Edge Modules by Lewis Simon and Bennett Arnstein. It is a model that clearly has a spot in my personal hall of fame!!

oh my goodness, what a blast from the past. i just remembered this channel exists and i remember being so hyped about modular origami because of it xD i must have made ten of these since first watching this... makes me want to make another lol
It took soooooo long to fold the peices, but I finally did it...and now I have to put them all together, greattttt
10 minutes video took hours. Worth making! Used green, black and white papers. Takes time to create. Thanks!!
Thank you for making this video. I followed your directions making sure to use all the same colors you used in the video and it turned out great. Your tutorials are very useful. You have a new subscriber :)
The instructions are very clear. Assembling it takes a bit of time and patience, but it was fun to do ^__^ Thank you very much!
Love this!! Made it out perfectly!! And it's EASY!!! For those who can't managed to combine the pieces, I suggest you try using a little glue. It helps to hold them together :)
Easy to do‽ Making this thing was a pure hell from start to finish. But honestly, it's worth it; it looks very nice.

It`s a perfect Gift!
OMG!!! PLATONIC SOLID TUTORIAL VIDEO!!! (I've been waiting for one of these).. you kinda rock.
probably the most awesome model of this sort! thanks for tutorial! :-)
Great vid, very informative! Took me over an hour...and the last piece was really hard to do, but I managed it! It works with 5 colors very nicely as well.
I'm almost done with it, I've only got nine pieces left! thanks for the great tutorial! I got frustrated at times, but all I had to do was go back and watch what you did! Thanks!
I just made it, it looks awesome, and is remarkbly stable :) great job!
i just finsished my model, and it looks awesome! the video is really nice. good quality, easy to follow and with a personal touch. Good work! :D
that's awesome dude! i'll try to do this if i have a spare time.
thanks for the instructions :D I can do so many of these already
This one was fun - once you get your head around how it goes together its pretty easy too! Thanks
It was very helpful for my math project. Thank you.
great video. great origami. i love the polyhedral videos. keep em coming!
This was a lot easier than the kusudama :) Thanks for posting!
Thank you so much for this! I made one, and gave it to my teacher for Christmas! Thanks!

I made it and it looks GREAT! It's the best origami so far that i made. It's great for hidding stuff:) Great videos!
Thanks for the video! I've messed up with colors for a first time, but eventually the icosahedron was finished. Also, I've noticed, that this module can be used for other tetrahedra. Have you made any other ones using this module?
11 yearsss ago ??? I cant belive
I learned how to make a Stellated Icosahedron, really cool!
whoaw i just made it and it's so great!!! it looks just like yours! i love it!
I just finished making mine. It looks pretty good.
Ah, these are very good videos! I've been watching them even before I made this account; very nice! Your videos are quite the help for an expert (lulz) like me! ;).
Just finished!!!!! This one was really fun to make. the last piece was really difficult to put on for me but all in all it was pretty easy. :)
i actually did it!!! i was always into origami but this was my most complicated project yet (im a noobie) so thank u very much i can try evn more complicated projects now!!!
@barbabellaatje I used a bit of glue for the model after sliding in the module, and it really helped when I went to add a bit of glue using the end of a pencil. I recommend doing what I did, maybe with a toothpick but only on the tucked in area.
i like how the segments are at an edge not corner so you could probably make other shapes like a tetrahedron or octohedron
i have watched almost every one of your vids you are a beast with paper
Can I use sticky notes?
I LOVE IT!!!! it took me 1 hr to make it, but it was worth it! I LOVE YOUR UPLOADS BARBABELLAATJE!!
Awesome Work ❤
well.... this method is really nice n works well with icosahedron (30 pieces indicating 30 edges) I tried the same with tetrahedron which turned out very hard... but still I succeeded next Octahedron this one was harder than icosa but not as hard as tetra .... anyway thnku for the method really awesome
lovely
That took me one h of a long time! But I am happy with the result, and it is huge! Great video :)
Is there any way that you can make it bigger from more units?
i made this a while ago... it was really fun and the outcome looked really cool. :)
what is surprising to me is i spelled icosahedron correct when searching for this video amazing video btw
Thank you so much! I'm making this for Art homework!
Awesome video have inspired me to do Modular Origami, Thanks
wow! this one is 1 of your best !! ive got 2 of them
the music is so soothing...
@OnTheStrangeSide can use a normal paper size or no i hav to use the same size?
*sings* On the day of Christmas eve, i decided to make my dad, a Icosahedron! :)
You're basically the only person on youtube that makes actually good origami tutorials :) My only complaint is that the music is too repetitive, maybe mix it up so you don't have to listen to the same bit over and over until your model is finished. And thank you for not speeding it up, everything is slow paced and easy to follow, and my model looks very nice!!

Imagine doing origami with hard rock xd
I wonder if this module can be used to make an origami dodecahedron.
how in the world do you find those type of origami paper.
what paper do you use i tried using origami paper but it was wayyy to flimsy to hold up a ball shape.
I wanted to know, what are the possible sizes for the beginning 15 squares ? thanks :)
oh, and what paper do you use ? :)
I hate my math project....

Great video instructions! I was able to make one myself and just uploaded a video of it. I have to say putting in the last few pieces was definitely the hardest part.
How many pieces are? I need it urgently
if you have i sided paper which side do you bigin on?
When I construct it I always get to the last few pieces and then realise I have to put two of the same colour next to each other. I have made it successfuly once before but I think it was a fluke. How do I make sure I never get two colours the same next to each other?
@Ransom90 There is a method but it's kinda hard to explain. If you look on one pentagon of the icosahedron you will see that around the edge three of the same colors will touch each other (I know that's really confusing). At :20 do you see how the icosahedron has 3 yellow units in the same place? That's the key if you don't want the same colors to touch. Just try your best to make each triangle the three different colors and you will eventually get it. Hope that helps.
This is how to make your own Phantom Ruby - the gem of unlimited power. Fun is Infinite with Sega Enterprises!
i've made 5, i love this model it's easy to do, doesn't require a crap ton of paper, and is a great display piece. i've been doing origami since 7th grade and my room is loaded full lol

this isn't perfectly origami this includes 15 squares n u have to cut them into halves but ... this is nice haha well done tho
i did that thing before to see your vid. anyway, ty, because you posted it instead of me!
@reymatt76 I went ahead and did the first part after coloring one side. I found in order to fold with the color on the outside you have to start folding with the color side up. that way when you finish it is shown off to the world. Hope this helps you as it did me. :)
Awesome video!!! Kinda reminded me of a '90s music video XD
wait why did you not use scissors (because they are prohibited in origami) but also use something not square?
finally, a tutorial on this (i could only find diagrams)

hey you from 11 years:)
I have to do this but I don't know how to do it. My colors Touch each other so the pattern falls apart and you didn't show the whole video you skipped it to the last piece now I'm stuck. HELP! D:

You can see that each triangular surface has three colors--RED, YELLOW, GREEN--in clockwise order. Just make sure that is the case for every triangular surface.
Have not made it yet but look easyer than some others so I will give it a go
dude all ur model are so crazy man...=))
Where did you find the diagrams for this? Please tell!
How long you made it?
Thanks for the great video!
the confusing part is after you make the 5 rings. What do you do next? please help!
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
I followed the color pattern and stuff but I get two moduels of the same color together any ideas why that is
Your shape would look better if all the seams were glued together and that you used a strong material such as cardboard, or even better, wood.
I was a bit confused in 1:22 - 1:27.But I get it.
Have to do this for my math project. Wish me luck! :)
How much small paper do I need?
omg can someone tell me how big the paper needs to be so i can try to make it
@reymatt76 yeah no kidding. That's what I'm trying to figure out and I was going to use 5 colors anyway.
how do u make the edges so smooth if u dont cut them o.o
you also can use 5 colors - 6 units of each color. then groüp all 5 colors around each corner.
I made it!! This is brutal:P
im guessing that this module will make polyhedra w/only regular triangles right(i.g.an octahedron
how big does the paper need to be?
Nice n hard work...... I will definitely make it for my exhibition..... Will u pls make a video on teaching aids for mathematics class 9...... Pls pls pls pls pls pls pls pls pls
@gueronpau97 you didn't have to watch the whole thing... you already knew what was going to happen in the video (the title and description explained it all)
so beautiful 😙😙
Does anyone know what paper that is ??
How many exactly do I have to make with each 3 colors?
The square can be any size alsong as ALL squares you use in the model are the same size. The squares are then cut in half to produce a 2:1 ratio rectangle :)
Nice method, perhaps I'll upload my own work.
Dose it transform ??
this will be my quest for tomorrow
what kind of paper i used
What is the exact size of the rectangle paper in 0:31? Please help me :(
