How to make an LS Engine Stand Alone - L96 With an E78 ECU

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here are the resources I use when making an LS Engine stand alone. I have made a few engines stand alone and these are the links that I go to to learn how to do it.
First!!!! Please consider a small donation to Folds of Honor. Go to www.ntdracing.com/ and click on "Donate Now".
My Amazon Store www.amazon.com/shop/ntdracing

Hands down the best place to go to figure out which wires to keep and which to cut on most LS swaps. Unfortunately, he does not have the E78 Harness information, but most others. I have reached out to him to see if he has information about getting add on cooling fans to work with a PWM signal that comes from the E78. Check back here, and I will probably make another video on cleaning up the harness and adding cooling fans...I am not giving up on the E78 yet.
This is where I found the pin outs for my 2013 Silverado. Seems like they have the electrical schematisc for many of the newer trucks.
www.gmupfitter.com/body-build...
J.R is still the Godfather of budget LS builds. J.R and I think the same when it comes to spending money on engines. Get a complete engine, and if it is not broken, dont try to fix it.

The support on the HP Tuner forum is like many forums. Search for your answer before you ask the same quesiton that was asked a few months ago. There are many very smart people that are willing to help new tuners.

Hi great video, any tips on how to make an audi 4.2 v8 bns engine from an rs4 standalone? I’ve made a test bed for it, I’ve got the main engine loom and ecu, and main auxiliaries attached to engine, just not sure where to start with the wiring… I’m doing an engine conversion into a vw but want to rebuild it and get it running on the test bed before I install it into the van

I love the content brother. For future reference. When pulling the engine on a damaged truck cut the frame at the firewall. Cut the top and about 3/4 of the way down with a Sawzall and the frame will relax and drop down away from the firewall and it will give you more room to work. Don't cut all the way through. You just want the frame to drop down some. Don't cut the bottom. You want the engine to come forward and down some. Once you get a little over half way on each side, go from side to side until the engine moves forward and down some.

My handheld code reader shows the pedal move up to 83.7% nice and smooth, but the actual throttle body position stays steady at around 32%.

@@thetodifah4707 I bought the controller kit that came with a new ecm I honestly don’t remember the model number but I did have to run a different tcm as well due to tuning issues. As well as an older 2012 throttle body and even had to share a vin number from a donar vehicle in order to get it tuned. Now in all of this I had to pass the buck to a mechanic and the tuner because I got overwhelmed and hit a rut. I had hoped to use everything stock from my complete pull but since my L96 &6L90E were out of a 2019 Silverado HD. There was practically nothing out there for my newer set up so that’s why myself and the mechanic were winging it. In hindsight It would certainly have been cheaper to get everything out of an older combination but you live and learn. I’m 100% sure that there’s a way to utilize all the stock components but I’m not smart enough nor have the time to trial and error with confidence that It’s going to be correct. I hit up all the main ls swap masters and got shot down by the few who responded because my combo is so new.

@@ntdracing I'm in the same situation. Apparently GM oe fans and ecu uses a different signal than aftermarket fans so it's difficult to properly control aftermarket fans with the ecu. A lot of people use oe fans, I've also seem where they remove oe fans from the shroud and put them in a custom shroud. I read where a couple years ago HP Tuner was looking into it to see if they could add programming for that but no idea if that ever happened. I cant find any info on KZread about this....it might be a good video that gets some good view! Anyway, I'm liking your channel, pretty sweet project!

L96 is a great motor for desert racing. They don't have a ton of the stupid emissions crap that the other LS motors have and its still an iron block which is very reliable. With a little love and plenty of on time maintenance these motors last a long time. Plus the L96 is made to run on crappy fuel so theoretically, feeding it great fuel and letting it breather better yields decent improvements in torque and horsepower.

With the HP tuner, once you spend the credits for a vehicle, can you continue to connect to that ECU in the future? Like when you are using it for racing, can you change the mixtures and what not? or is it 2 credits each time you connect to that particular vehicle?

Yes. The 6L90 TCM does not have anything to do with VATS. It talks to the engine to hash out torque management and gear selection, but you can swap a 6L90 with another no problem. We were running an Express van 6L90 in the race truck. The only thing it did not like was when we flashed the truck program into the express van TCM. Now what I do is connect any 6L90 to my LY6 or L96 and read and save the tune from the TCM to modify. Then we flash that back in with stuff like TUTD…see my other videos on that. Hope this answered your question.
