Wisconsin has its own version of the popular Old Fashioned. Except this version is made with Brandy. Dating back to the Chicago World's Fair, a company in California decided to make their own Brandy following a grape blite that left Brandy limited in the US.
Some Wisconsinites were at the world's fair, and decided to bring the brandy back home, and not long later the Wisconsin Old Fashioned was born. You can use any of your favorite brandys, but the traditional version is to use Korbel, the company from the World's Fair.
Wisconsin consumes more Brandy than any other state in the US and is responsible for over 50% of all Korbel sales.

RECIPE: Wisconsin Old Fashioned
2oz | 60ml Brandy
3-5 Dashes Bitters
2 Orange Slices
1 Sugar Cube
1 Cherry
Top of with choice of: Soda water, lemon-lime soda or grapefruit soda
Garnish: Orange Wedge and Cherry
Add Bitters, orange slices, sugar cube, and cherry into a rocks glass.
Muddle ingredients until sugar is fully dissolved.
Add Ice to your glass, then add brandy.
Stir your drink.
Top off your drink with choice of Soda
Garnish with Orange wedge and cherry.
ENJOY!

Almost called you out on missing the cherry before muddling! lol. But then you remembered. Us Wisconsinites pronounce the brandy name as "Core-bell", btw. 🙂 Awesome job though, you nailed the recipe!!!!!

Nice work! I would say most of us are purists here in Wisconsin- it’s always Korbel, and it’s nearly always 7up. You order this at the bar as a “brandy old fashioned sweet”, although most bartenders here will serve you exactly that if you just ask for an old fashioned. It’s a great drink, I think- sweet but packs a wallop and cuts through the richness of a lot of the traditional Wisconsin foods.
It’s pronounced, core-bell.

I prefer a brandy old fashioned sour. Squirt works well for the sour as Graf’s 50/50 is no longer available. Now you need to make brandy slush for Christmas.
Nice work. It is a tasty cocktail. It usually tastes better after the ice steeps for a few minutes to achieve the perfect balance. That's one reason why some people prefer crushed ice - because it steeps a bit faster.

Some of the supper clubs in Wisconsin put a cinnamon stick in them. (that was back in the 60s)
How many changes can one make to a drink and still call it a riff on a cocktail? Not a question for you persay but for the Wisconsin folks. Korbel definitely is a good bottle. Good stuff sir.

That’s the honor that comes with being the state that consumes more alcohol than any other and it’s not even close, its our old fashioned and everyone else has to like it.

Korbell is pronounced core bell and it’s not Mary Cino cherry it’s Mari Chino, cherry.

I get so upset when I order an Old Fashioned at a restaurant or bar and I know I can make it better! They don't even squeeze the orange in there. What the hell. I love watching a bartender do it properly, though. Also a Wisconsinite knows you're going to be asked if you want it sweet or sour.

get rid of the muddled fruit get rid of the pop get rid of the brandy. keep the sugar cube keep the bitters add a bar spoon of water. muddle the bitters water and sugar cube into a slurry add 2 oz. rye whiskey one large ice cube. stir for 30 seconds to dilute and chill the drink. cut a swath of orange peal without the pith twist over the top of the drink to express the oils on top of the drink. put the peal into the glass along the side as a garnish. enjoy
