Measure out 16g coffee. Put it in grinder. For best flavor, Grind medium to fine. Once it's ground, grab cap from aeropress and put filter in it - lock it into place with the long 'aeropress logo'd piece' and place it over to cup. First rinse hot water through paper filter, then ready to start brewing. Press the grounds into the aero press black funnel. Then pour hot water (94c). From this point, shouldn't take more than 2-2.5 minutes to complete the full extraction. Filling it all the way to the top (leaving small gap at the top) give it gentle mix with plastic stir stick. And place the plunger on top. Now wait 1-1.5 min before you start plunging down. Gently push down, Now under its own weight it should start to press down.

AeroPress is a truly wonderful coffee maker; such great coffee from such a simple, durable and inexpensive device. I first bought one at Zabar’s, New York, in 2006 - not too long after it came out. I have found that many people who would not consider themselves coffee fans have loved the coffee it produces, and several of my guests have gone on to buy one for themselves. It’s only really suitable for one or two cups; more than that and it takes too long. But very much worth having in your arsenal of coffee makers. I must admit that I use far more than 16g of coffee. 😏

On a daily basis rinsing the rubber stopper and filter cap after pressing cleans the brewer. but you really need to wash with soap or vinegar weekly. Sinceit's an immersion brewer the oils build up on the plastic. You won't really notice it until about 6 mnths to a year.

Using this method, while waiting the the minute for it to brew the water/coffee all drains down into the cup so there is very little left to press. If you want to brew the coffee for a minute I think you need to use the inverted method which is well documented on you tube. Otherwise, I like the original instructions that come from Aeropress, you only brew for 10 seconds while gently stirring then press. And you only fill the chamber half full of water. It makes a very strong 4oz or so of coffee which you can then add water for a cup of coffee, or if you want a milk drink add hot milk for a latte. I often add mine to a glass that has ice and about half full of milk to make a great iced latte type of drink.

The official Aeropress manual is sorta lackluster compared to this one, this method feels a lot better.
Do you get the glass mug with it?
I just got one of these, and the instructions in the box did not mention what to do with the big black plastic hexagonal piece. From this demo, it seems like it was just for helping you pour the ground coffee into the chamber, which seems like a waste of plastic--and backpack space if you're camping. Thanks for solving the mystery, though! I also liked that you pressed all the water through the grounds instead of what my directions said, which is to press just a few ounces through and then pour the rest of the hot water directly into the mug afterwards to dilute it to taste.

100% The funnel actually is meant to be used for brewing in to thermos flasks and other containers with a narrow openings too.!! adding water to the concentrated brew along with temp gives you a smoother cup. Some say it's a weak cup that way but you can either use more coffee, stir more, or use less water to dilute.
This isn’t what’s in the instructions, but hey that works too.
When I press the plunger it squirts coffee grinds and water out the side were paper filter doesn't cover
How to make a double shot of Bustelos in there?

@AlternativeBrewing
Жыл бұрын
This is a very good point. TBH I've never really used them though - they could be used to measuring water I guess - or the speed or pressing down - though I don't think many people use all of them often - perhaps just a consistent fill to one number or another as the set place to fill up - and that's it.
The instructions say fill to chamber 1
You should do upside-down
Could you do a video on McDonald’s iced coffee? I really wanna get that taste but I don’t know the ratio. All i know is that they brew 2 packets in one pot. So its lots of coffee for that one coffee pot.
@joshuawalker2537
2 жыл бұрын
I would highly recommend the Mr. Coffee Ice Coffee Maker. It factors in that more concentrated coffee.
What are the numbers 1,2 and 3 on the side for. I have been adding water to the level No.1. One school of ground coffee. Then adding steamed milk. I didn’t realise you had to wait a minute or so before pressing. Will try again!! I was also pressing down a bit too fast.
@AlternativeBrewing
3 жыл бұрын
The numbers are a great way to continue to brew with consistency. You can thereby use the regular scoop for coffee and fill it to the same line every time to make a similar tasting coffee. Waiting, or steeping the coffee, allows more flavour to be extracted from the beans. A stir can exacerbate this, and around 2-3 minutes is where you see diminishing results from steeping longer. So in total 2-3 minute complete brew time is a great method to stick to. Pressing slowly minimises the risk of pressing finer coffee particles through the paper filter.. and tends to make a sweeter cup - than pressing harder. ENJOY!

@AlternativeBrewing

Apples and Oranges really. The Dedica will make appliance quality Espresso, which is okay.. small 30-50mls shots of coffee you can build on from there to make a latte cap etc... The Aeropress, for most is a brewer where you're making one large Black coffee to drink, no milk. It can, does and was the original recipe that suggest you only make a small 50-100ml strong coffee and dilute it, and this does a great job - but it won't be espresso like, as much as the Dedica is 😀

@@AlternativeBrewing thanks for the swift and detailed response. I ended up placing an order for the aeropress. I'm very much new to good homemade coffee. So I reckon it will be a good place to start and an improvement on my previous, and only, experience with capsule based devices. Cheers mate.
Instructions recommend one scoop of already ground coffee, not one scoop of coffee beans to be then ground. Then add water UP TO 1 on the chamber, not all the way to the top (past 4). At level 1 water, yield is equivalent to espresso in style. Add additional water or milk to 275ml to make American or Latte respectively. This is a tricky one to say - I would certainly be looking for Filter roasted beans for the Aeropress - beyond this. -it really depends on the flavour you prefer - rich chocolate or sweet fruits? On the rare occasions you can find both in one coffee 😀
One question. How is this any different to a normal coffee plunger? I'm thinking of buying one but I have a perfectly good plunger. Thanks for sharing
@AlternativeBrewing
2 жыл бұрын
Plunger coffee has a habit of brewing better coffee - 'if' you just leave the brew in the pot and slowly pour it out over a period of time. It also tends to be a little more gritty - as most Press pots use Metal filters - that do let some fine grinds in to the cup. The aeropress is none of that. You press the coffee straight through a metal filter in to your cup below. So the coffee tends to be a lot lot smoother. The Aeropress in general though is a 1-2 cup brewer - whilst press pots range all the way up to 12 cups easily.

Not sure about the weak coffee that starts dribbling through at the start 🤔 Invert it.

They work pretty well but they can let some little grounds through and also the paper filters make a less acidic cup because the paper traps some of the unwanted oils, the areo is the way to go, it makes a better cup then most any other method even at home
@AlternativeBrewing
2 жыл бұрын
Both! A Moka Pot will ned the stove for brewing. whereas the Aeropress just needs water - in some cases I've even used cold water ( or even Coconut water haha -) witht he Aeropress and still brewed a decent coffee. So depends on your style of camping and preferred coffee. The Moka Pot will always brew a strong espresso like coffee that you'd add milk or hot water too.. the Aeropress is more like a Filter COffee, and you'll drink this straight - if not adding just a little bit of water to it.. you can brew a moka pot style brew with the Aeropress ,,, but it doesn't really work the same way.. If you prefer Espresso - go the Moka Pot .. maybe the 4 cup size for one person .. six cup for two.. but if you like to experiment than go the Aeropress
