How to make AirCrete using the Dragon XL

Aircrete Dome building workshop on Big Island, HI, July 2019, Part 1 - DomeGaia
This video shows how to mix Air Crete using DomeGaia's Dragon XL and how to adjust the foam weight. The next day we cut the Air-Crete into blocks with strings to start building the dome house.

Great videos. I'm looking at smaller projects (1 bag concrete, not two). What is the target consistency of the aircrete where you know you've injected the right amount of foam into the wet concrete?

  • @MyTinyWagon

They did a lot of testing in the past and figured out the proper consistency. So if you use only one bag, then use half the amount of foam using the same size barrel.

at 8:42 when you tipped one drum worth of mixture in it barely came 1/4 up the sides of the mould, but 'next day' was at the top, does it expand by its self?

Is it possible to pour this product into a form to make walls? Would you still need rebar to reinforce the aircrete? Would using a concrete vibrator to eliminate air pockets have a deleterious effect on the foam?

As long as it's not too thick, it will settle well into the form. We are going to try to pour our walls. We do plan to use some pretty serious reinforcement. 🙂🏠

I have not seen much cracking. These dome houses can survive earthquakes. The dome house is covered with a mesh that helps prevent cracks as well.

Hand saw will work. A wire saw also work but that take's two people. Or you can build a mold that has a way to divide it before it's cured.
