Magnificent. I have done something similar but with only LM 350K. It can handle just over 3 amps. With a 24 volt transformer the output voltage is 1.2V up to 30 volt DC. Built in 1980 and still holding.

Gracias 🙏

What's the point of the two 1.5 ohm resistors? As you can see the voltage drops from 13.3V to 12V. That is not a regulator, it is a simple emitter follower. In order for this to be a regulator you need a feedback to the output of the LM317. That's why it doesn't work properly.

Hello Your totos are well presented and nice. But having made feeds with thypons (printed circuits) for high schools with high school teachers (between 1998 and 2011) I would have a suggestion on security: the food should be secure, either in a wooden box as you show not PVC but closed, to avoid electric shock. cordially Patrick France

No , 90V isnt gonna cut it , by the way this is not a Transistor this is IC , Transistor is not doing anything its making it worse , it had Current limiting now it has no safety . For 90 V speed controller you will need another IC , Switch probably HVoltage one , and 3 Phase DC motor controller , you are probably talking about that, no this is not gonna cut it , aint no simple way of doing that .

you could use lt783 instead of lm317!! it operates between 1.5V to 115V, which should fulfill your needs!! On the other hand, if you have to add some high power transistors in order for such high current!! there are some clips demonstrating how to connect those components!! I have found some related links below!! may I suggest, connecting the 270Ω resistor to the output end of the parallelled 1.5Ω resistor instead of the output of the LM317? That would compensate for the voltage drop in the emitter follower resistors, keeping the output stable from no-load, to full load. (leave the capacitor connected as is, for stability) The LM317 works by making sure the reference voltage between the adj and output remains exactly the same. If voltage drop appears across the 2N5532 and the resistors connected to the emitter, it will automatically compensate. That makes it a true regulated supply. You should not see any change on the volt meter, when connecting a light bulb or motor. Connecting a couple of diodes in series with a low resistance between the output of the large resistors and the BASE of the 2N3055 will limit the current that the transistor can conduct, in case of a short circuit. Make the value low enough, that the current limit built into the LM317 can protect itself, as well as the power transistor.

This is voltage regulator IC , not a transistor, its Called Pass transistor used for incising current, not controlling voltage, you dont need this transistor for voltage regulation . Lm317 will cut it , up to max 40V , that is about 25V Transformer .
