Hi Jen! Thanks for taking your time to explain each step. I’ve watched other tutorials for pillows, but cutting the first seam allowance down to 1/8” makes sense. That way we don’t have to worry about having it show when we sew the 1/4” final hem. Absolutely love that you used a print fabric for the accent piece as well, it’s gorgeous.

I love this & will be making these covers for sure! The hidden seams are great. I used them the first time with your reusable grocery bags video. I’m still making them as gifts! I also purchased the point 2 point turner and it’s a wonderful tool. As you can see I enjoy your ideas & videos. They are always so thorough. Thank you!

Great video!! I find that if I’m doing a lot of french seams, if I keep a small sponge dampened in a little cup (I use pampered chef prep cups) I dampen my fingers and it helps to roll that seam. Thanks for sharing!

You have answered EXACTLY what I needed to know! I am finding that if I come to your website first I can always find answers I need to know! I also love the fact that you lay everything out in full view and don't edit steps out assuming everyone knows what you're doing. To someone who is somewhat new to sewing it makes a world of difference in someone's confidence to try something 'more' than they've ever done before. Thank you, Jen, for being so thorough. I just bought the new February 2022 pint size table topper as well as the Log Cabin Wall Hanging in Repro Reds. Because of your demonstrating it so completely I now feel like I can branch out and try new things. Thank you again!!! Kaye. :-)

LOL I'm one of those 1 million people watching the Magic Pillowcase tutorial. My quilt shop makes pillowcase for a community project, so I might make 10 pillowcases a week, so before I start I watch the tutorial on them so I make sure I'm doing them right, and told my mini group about you tutorial because some of them have never made a pillowcase and told them it was a easy project. Love the french seam the most, plus pulling the case out of the tube. Glad you will be having a new tutorial on the reg size and king, but I will order the pattern too. My granddaughter will be go to a pre-school hopefully this fall so will make her a pillowcase for her nap time there. Love watching you tutorials keep them coming, Stay safe .

@@ShabbyFabrics hi ! I have received the kit I ordered for a travel size pillowcase. The cut is very well done and I feel I can prewash it. I’m wondering if I should sew the burrito on each end and then wash it before sewing the rest of the pillow OR if I should wash the three pieces of fabric at a delicate cycle first and then , start sewing? Or maybe I could wash the pieces in a lingerie bag? 🌸🌸

I've been making pillowcases for years, I love doing them for my family as gifts. But I do mine with a flap and I mix up my fabrics as my fabric permits. Sometimes a different front to the back or a different wee flap. During lockdown I've been making pillowcases out of fabric I've had in my stash for over 20 years!! I bought it from a factory shop we used to have here that sold bundles of Dorma bedding off cuts. Still gorgeous today and yesterday when my daughter brought our shopping to us I was able to give her some for her and her sister. I LOVE FRENCH SEAMS, they are easy and so neat BUT a few years ago I treated myself to a little Serger. So for my flap pillow cases I just zip down the sides with that little machine. I've never tried this kind of pillowcase and will have a go but I will put little tie tapes on to keep the actual pillow from slipping out. Wishing good days for all viewers and the Shabby Fabrics team from Belfast NI.

Hello, it’s me again. 🌸🌸 After I had made a travel size pillow with my own fabrics, I made one with a kit I had ordered from your shop with the camping theme. And I was debating if I should prewash the fabrics, I finally did and it didn’t shrink much , almost nothing. It was my first time with a kit and the cut was perfect with a good 2-inch extra for each piece. So I ‘ll probably buy more kits in the future,

Fantastic! I love watching your videos, so easy to follow. While watching this one I was thinking how this would make a great holloween trick or treat bag. Could add a drawstring at the top or put small handles on it. YOu could also make these and use them for gift bags. I like to wrap baby show gifts in a receiving blanket, well you could use a baby print and put the gift inside. Then you give them an extra gift. So many other uses and not just a pillow case.

That's a great suggestion! We do know that some people create their pillow cases with a "European envelope style"- creating an inside flap that "tucks" the pillow inside. Additionally, a zipper or button enclosure may be an alternate solution. 💖 -Michelle

Hi Teresa! We're glad you enjoy this fun project. On the Free Download pattern, our recommended size for a travel pillow is 13.5"x33" for body, 6"x13.5" for cuff & 2.5"x13.5" for accent, so your measurements may work. One option would be to try this out with paper or scraps prior to using your intended fabric. Hope you find this helpful! -Michelle

I really enjoyed your step-by-step video. I made a pillow for my grandson with dinosaur pattern fabric. I purchased a travel size pillow that was 12 x 16 then I cut my body fabric 33 x 13 1/2 since it was directional. It came out very nice but the pillowcase is 8 inches longer than the pillow. Is this correct or did I do something wrong?

Love this tutorial! But I found the measurements given for the travel pillow were a bit too small for a toddler pillow which are an average size of 13X18. So, for those looking to make a toddler pillowcase that finishes at 14X20 and fits those toddler pillows perfectly, here are the measurements I used: Main Body Fabric - 35" X 15.5" (cut one piece) Cuff Fabric - 6" X 15.5" (cut 2 pieces) Accent Fabric - 2.5" X 15.5" (cut 2 pieces) Use the directions given, just use these measurements for your fabric. Hope this helps anyone out there looking to make a toddler sized pillowcase. I am in the process of making my grandson one for each holiday/season of the year so he can have fun frequently switching them out. :)
