This is MAGNIFICENT. I have been searching EVERYWHERE for a top hat with a large brim, to no avail. So, now I can just get out my yoga mat, cut it up, glue it and spray paint and make my own. THANKYOU SO MUCH for sharing, I LOVE HATZ. Everyone loves hatz!!!

Thanks for the video. I just finished mine today and LOVE IT. I used a cheap pre-made top hat from Amazon and covered that and it turned out perfect. Will look great with my kids costume.

Huzzah! A man of culture

Time/headache saving tip: I had a heckuva time using the epoxy. It was curing too quickly and my rivets were coming out stringy and not at all like I'd hoped. I used Ranger's glossy accents, which dries clear and has a needle tip bottle for dispensing. It worked amazingly well, and very quick. It's a fantastic adhesive for dimensional elements as well. You can purchase it at any scrapbook store or at Michaels and it goes a long way.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to check that out. Some people really like the epoxy, but others hate it, so it's good to have options.

Here's a response to Lou M, Unfortunately I can't respond directly to your question, in order to allow me to respond, go to Google plus settings, open Google account settings, Where it says "who can click on your public posts" change it to "anyone" That would be awesome! As far as sizes, the pattern comes with 9 sizes from 41cm to 63 cm head diameters. I haven't had anyone yet tell me that there wasn't a size that fit them, so you should be alright.

+Jacky Fly I did that and it looked great. I used matte black acrylic spray paint (do it outside ;) later on I went on and added the "plates". It looks awesome!

Looks better up close where you can see the rivets; from a distance it looks a little messy. This is probably because the hat looks the same on all sides. Perhaps one might pick up a few plastic cogs or other steampunk-style objects, paint them in bronze/gold paint, and affix them to the hat? It would break up the monotony of the hat's appearance, and add some extra flair.

Just done with my hat! I'm pretty satisfied I must say. Finished it with 3 different colors of rub'n'buf (Inka Gold) - first with copper, then highlight with some gold and lastly just a few touches of silver on the edges :) Have a picture on my onedrive for those who would like to see -> 1drv.ms/1RMaizd

Paul Ciura Cool. I've seen alot where they were attached, and it caved the hat in somewhat, yours held up well in the picture so i was unsure.

Bought the pattern and made the hat! Yay! Came out great. Thanks for the tutorial.

Wow! This is so cool! I really like the way you incorporated the rub n buff to make it look like a dark polished kind of metal. and the rivets made of glue were ingenious! I created it! I used a dark blue since it's my son's favorite color. I used glue gun because it's my favorite to work with. Love it!

Whaaat! You are awesome! Making this for my son for Xmas as he LOVES the steampunk/turn of the century stuff. He pretends he's an airship captain on his bunk bed ALL the time so I think this hat will be PERFECT. Hats off to you! (Such a mom joke)
