    My grandma made me a frog like this when I was about 5. I still have him. He is made of green polyester stretch fabric and stuffed with bird seed. I like these quilted ones and will be making a few for friends kids. Thanks.

    I had one too-no idea what happened to it, but a lady in my dad’s church made it. I remember it especially because I had horrible migraines and I would put it on that side of my head. It blocked light and the weight gave me some relief so I could sleep. You never know what kind of relief or comfort you are sharing with others through the things you make. The lady’s name was Nanny Moreland and while she must have passed away long ago, she left good memories.

    I remember these basic frogs from the 1970s, I think we made them in Camp Fire Girls. They weren’t quilted, but they were quite easy to make and everyone loved them! It makes my heart happy to see them again.

    do you have to quilt the frog and what about using dried beans instead of poly beads?

  • @FatQuarterShopTX

    @FatQuarterShopTX

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi Beverly, you do not have to quilt the frog, but the goal is to have the batting and fabrics "stick" together, so you can also try a fusible batting or just quilt around the frog and "stitch in the ditch" so you get fewer wrinkles and puckers once you're done. WHat you use for filling is completely up to you.

    I asked the designers of Me & My Sister designs this question and this is what they said: "We receive hundreds of requests from worthy causes, quilt guilds, and individuals every year. So over the years we have been asked this question many times and have come up with a policy. Our policy for resale or for non-profit is 10 items or less. If you have a resale license number such as a Tax ID number we will need that. If this is for non-profit … we will also need a copy of that paperwork. If you are planning to make more than 10 items, we can have our attorney contact you with information on completing a manufacturing agreement Thanks! - meandmysisterdesigns@cox.net" Thanks for your question.

    You shouldn't sew over pins, you can break a needle. Sharp things flying isn't a good thing. I've also heard you can break your sewing machine that way, but it's never happened to me, thank goodness because I love my machine. I have broken my fair share of needles by sewing over pins by accident though!

    I sewed over one by accident. Needle broke and flew up and hit the lens of my glasses. Very glad I wear glasses, would not want the needle embedded in my eye!! I'm more careful now.

    I was taught to sew right over my pins and have been doing so for 36 years with no catastrophe. Yes, I have broken a few needles (very, very few) but the top part stays in the needle holder and the bottom part is still attached to the thread on the machine, not flying through the room at mock speed.

    I don’t get why they sew 3 layers for the front then sew the back. Surely the front and batting for the front is enough, why add the backing? I’m a new sewer so there may be a very good reason for it, but when I make this I will not be making a 3 layer sandwich for the front.

    Hi Samara, they did 3 layers together is so that it can be quilted and the quilting shows up better.

    I don't care what people say you are helpful. Then the sister is gone from last step. I came here to see how to sew toys from fat quarters and wow I must say the lady in the red shirt doing most of the talking wasn't very nice to her sister on camera for everyone in the world to see. It's like she was so mean to her but in a nice voice way because they where being recorded.

    Sure, it might take up more space than the typical pincushion but there is no reason you couldnt use it as one. Great idea!

    If you use it as a pin cushion I would recommend filling the frog with crushed walnut shells that can be purchased at any pet store.
