It might be easier to glue the gusset fabric on the outside of the cover before you put on the paper cover if you see what I mean great idea

That's a great tip to use the sanding block to smooth out and age the mod podge bubbles! I'm really liking these storage 'books' and am thinking they would be really cute to give with a handmade journal... decorate the storage book to match the journal, and attach a simple closure over the opening to hold the journal inside.

2 years later! I did the whole thing with double sided tape. I also did cover with fabric as well. I made a larger storage folder with an Amazon box. Never thought I could make it, but went stoically on, and voila 1 hour later, I finished. 😅thanks Pam for all these videos. Making things I never thought I could possibly make. 😂

I love this idea! My mom would probably cringe at a lot at these crafts because she is a retired librarian and bibliophile! I love books too, but I have NO problem tearing one up for the sake of art! As far as sewing the gussets to the book cover, you'd want to pre-poke all the holes for sewing and hand stitch it. You could probably machine stitch it, but I personally wouldn't want to risk missing the holes and messing up my machine. Love your videos!

It is good that you share it with us when you struggle. Makes us not feel so bad. Suggestion : doing it over 2 days would be simpler. You glue one side, then wait until the next day to do the other when the 1st is stable.

Fitting oxymoron for stolen book yer using: UNBORED !!!! Have you ever been???? Hubby just got a shredder so I had to put up “NO TRESPASSING “ signs on My three rooms sewing/crafts/writing office. No entry and no snitching my scraps. My scraps equal my sanity. But in his Amazon Mail were two boxes with two generous spines and lovely overlap so pretty paper will be protected. Found an old Hermès bag that had survived a savage cat attack. 💼 handle will be lovely on my paper holder. TYFT

This is a great storage container. I may try a couple. I'm going to cover the spine with the same cloth used for the 'gusset', but I'll glue the fabric down on the outside of the cover to avoid all of the hassle of trying to get the fabric right on the inside of the cover. That would be a personal nightmare for me. It would also do away with having to try to gesso over the edges and spine too. If the decorative paper to use on the outside covers is too thin to glue smoothly over the fabric on the edges, I'll use chipboard, cereal box salvage, or manila (or heavier) file folders to glue the deco paper on before adding it to the outside. Thanks for sharing.

17:46 Ok Pam, I had a brainstorm while watching this old video. If you put a book or box inside the cover with the “width of choice” and almost as tall as your book cover, you can pull your flaps up and over, then apply glue where you need it, close the other cover on them to get them squished onto the glue and tada, gussets are done! Not sure if that made sense to anyone, but it sounds good in my head!

I was wondering whether you could have glued the fabric gussett to top and bottom and then put the text block (pages you removed) back in place to fold the gussett fabric onto it, place glue and then close book cover. Wouldn't this alleviate the need to use the ruler etc to make a tight connection between gussett and book cover?

That was pretty much my idea, except I was thinking you might not have the text block so was thinking of making a jig of sorts or use another book to drape the fabric over, with glue on the book or on the fabric....either way would work. But..... MY way is going to be even easier hahaha I'm not going to make one muahahashga not that way that is. I'm going to lay it down with the front cover being the lid and the walls and dividers will be cardboard to organize my little bits like washi, paper clips, pens, etc. 🤗

I would mess it up, ill try glueing fabric on the outside with bigger pieces and see if that works better for me. 😆😅

IKEA sells all kinds of storage boxes:) but I did like your idea to store your little cutout pictures and stickers! I’ve watched you all day from the Radisson Blu Hotel in Vilnius Lithuania... because yeah, everything is closed!

Hi from the UK.. love, love, love your chaos. Just wanted to pass on a couple of possibly helpful tips...WD-40 for removing sticky marks and if you do want rid of your glue bumps then I have a little mod podge smoother but a plastic store card type thing will do just as good with a little baking paper to protect xx

Hello Pam! Long time ago a professional cutler told me to clean adhesives from scissors and other metal blades like exacto knives with a little white vinegar on a piece of an old t-shirt or other lint free cloth. Reason: it will not pit or cause your blades to rust. Second suggestion is to use a citrus based cleaning oli found at most hardware stores or places like walmart. I use one called Goo-B-Gone

I love this!!! I’m new here and I can watch glue dry all day 🤣. I also thought a great big one with added handles would make a beautiful artist portfolio.

I miss traveling so bad it hurts. But more time to paper craft right? I have a few very large books that have just been begging to become something useful. Perfect project woohoo! Thanks, Pam. Still got the door closed on poor Holly? I miss his commentary, but my poor cat Amok Amok gets a bit upset when he hears Holly sound off. He looks at my ipad with a really mean look in his eyes 😎 That sanding block method is brilliant! Wow! My disaster pants can be saved! 🥰

I just got a glue eraser from the Dollar Tree. It looks like it's cut from the sole of a Clark's Wallaby. I haven't used it yet but It looks promising. It would be nice to save my asetone for my dolls and fingernails ♥ Every Queen needs a crown 👑

I have used Mod Podge on large canvases where I put a poster on the canvas with the mod podge. When the bubbles popped up I just put a tiny pin hole in the middle of it and press the air out of the bubble. Smooths right out. 😁 but it is cool looking to sand them bubbles out!

With Modpodge is best to use a brayer to smooth it down. I also have a card that smooth the paper. They came with my Mod Podge. I love it. There are so many types. I love this idea.
