How to Make a Simple Bible Cover
A Leather Bible Cover is probably one of the most popular items that leather craftsmen create for their customers. They are also one of the most popular projects for a new LeatherHead to test his/her skills when it comes to making a book cover. Bible covers offer much more room for leather tooling artwork which in turn allows for a lot more customization.
In this video, I show you how I make a simple leather bible cover. This bible cover has no type of closure nor the use of zippers. For a very clean and professional looking book cover, you can't beat this style.
I used an NIV Personal Size Bible that I purchased at Walmart for this project. The actual size of the Bible was 5.5" X 8.5" and the leather front and back panels ended up being 6" X 9 3/8" to allow for a comfortable fit. My spine piece was 2.5" wide including the 3/4" allowance on the sides to allow for the thickness of the Bible that I used. The brand of the Bible was Zondervan. You can certainly adjust your measurements to fit any Bible or book that you choose to use for this project.
This is probably one of the shortest project videos that we have created. This should let you know how simple this project is to create. If you have been searching for the perfect project to offer to your customers or just to make for family or friends, this is the project. I make this Bible Cover in three pieces which allows for easier use of your scrap leather, but you could certainly make the outside from one solid piece if you prefer.
There is a Companion Pattern Pack available for this project as with all of our project videos. The pattern pack includes all the dimensions that I used, all the cut patterns, and 10 different floral tooling patterns! As with all of our pattern packs, these are digital downloads in PDF format. Sir…”simple” to me is using a brown grocery paper bag to cover my books. This is highly complicated and requires loads of talent, time, creativity, and tools. God surely blessed you with the talent for sure! Could you please make ME a “simple” Bible cover? 😁

Oops. Didn't finish my comment before I double checked your video at time-line 4:18. You said some like to use blue tape but you prefered gluing poster board on the front/back panels. That made me think that at some time you would remove the poster board (temp glue?). Then it sounded like you left the poster boards in permanently. So many glues for so many different reasons. Could you clarify the glue used if you planed to remove the boards later OR whether you left the poster boards in the completed project?
Brother I don’t hardly ever comment on KZread and I just got a save not too long ago and born again and getting into God‘s word again pretty deep so looking for a Bible cover anyway I ended up here and I must say I was going to try to do one myself because I’m kind of a hands-on guy but brother I got to give you credit where credit is due when you got to draw it out that stencil that’s one of the coolest things I have ever seen in my life I believe ha ha awesome work bud do you have a website where I could order something from you? I've never seen one quite like it, but it looks to me like he's using the smallest X-Acto knife handle with a two-hole injector razor blade in the slot, which will work beautifully. In fact, I'm going to do just that with one of my X-Acto handles. Thanks for the idea!

I think Kyle is right - I remember Don talking about it in other videos. If I remember correctly, he uses the hollow ground blade, too. Very sharp.

We all do them a little differently don't we. I have made these for I guess 8 or 9 years. I do most of them with double loop stitch, people like that. See later.

What is a "Bobble"? I've heard of bobble-head dolls but haven't ever heard a book called that. This project can be used for any book. What makes it specific for books that bobble?

So I'm trying to learn how to make a leather cover for my new Bible, it desperately needs protection because it's original leather covering isn't suitable. Did this video teach me how to make a leather case for my Bible? NOPE... I'm still frustrated with these "how to" KZread videos. 😌
