Wasn’t your cable antenna was black, and the one connected to your tv is white? 🤔

I was getting 22 broadcast channels on my store-bought antenna, some of which were of such poor quality they were unwatchable. Rather than buy a more expensive antenna, I decided to try this DIY version. It is amazing. I went from 22 channels to 36, all of which are crystal-clear. That's with the antenna in my basement. No telling what I'd get if I moved it outside. Thank you. You're a genius.

This was a quick and easy project. I have made several indoor antennas and they work well, but this variation is outstanding. All my prior fringe stations are solid now with massively improved signal strength. I found that orienting the copper end horizontally is consistently better, which supports the fact that almost 95% of U.S. TV transmitters utilize antennas that are horizontally polarized. Thanks very much!

I made 2 of these, in 10 minutes or less, from pieces of cable I saved (and that my girlfriend has threatened to throw out a million times.) I'm blown away! One of the installs was in my basement workshop, beneath a copper waste line and next to a poured wall (rebar.) I get 30 channels with no pixelation or problems at all. The second one went on our main TV (ground floor) and I get an additional 5. We do have cable, but it goes out occasionally. Now we have a choice. I have tried several, admittedly cheap, store-bought, and supposedly "amplified" antennas, and this simple hack blew them away. Added benefit - she will probably never question my hoarded wire box again.

I have been trying this out by using two smaller lengths of exposed copper coax attached to a splitter so it makes a twin antenna that I attach to a longer length of coax. Sweet baby Jesus riding a raptor in Atlantis, it works. Thank you, kind sir for humbly doing battle with that coax cable. My roommate is in the hospital so his parents are at our house from out of state and I couldn't get the Roku to work, or Netflix to work on an Android box, nor a digital cable box. I spent a whole day fiddling with those and went to bed defeated. then I woke up this morning and watched your video and got digital channels working in a total of 30 minutes for them and now they can have something to do besides worry and stress(which means I am able to do something besides worry and stress as much too). They thanked me but I pass those thanks along to you, oh defeater of cable sheaths. Had I not seen the struggle I would have thought I was doing it wrong, so I have no complaints about it not being edited out. Haha. Thanks again from all of us here:) May you keep your exacto blade sharp kind sir.

This is called a 1/2 wave dipole antenna. Each part, the 1) inside conductor and 2) the foil make up what are referred to as the "elements" of the antenna. You shouldn't cut off the foil. In fact, the antenna will be directional if the elements are shaped in a V with the widest end facing the stations that you want to pick up.

I did it on 4 tv's in the house, I'm getting about 20 channels crystal clear on each one. Today I took back all our cable boxes & turned off the cable except the internet. Our monthly bill will be $77 instead of $104. I was just getting basic cable before not the expanded option. Actually getting more channels now. All except TBS. Thanks again !!!

The one I made was with about five feet of cord. You could use less if you had to. The idea is to just grab some spare coaxial cord you have around the house.

I made this exactly as described and it works perfectly. Fortunately I live within 3 miles of a huge TV tower farm - Oklahoma City with about a dozen towers so I'm able to pickup about 30 crystal clear channels. Like a previous commenter said, regardless of what kind of antenna you have, you have to be within a certain range of the station's towers. I don't know if there's a way to specifically aim toward the tower(s) for better reception if you live far from it.

What is the significance of 6 inches? Is it because it is approximately 1/4 the wave length of channel 14? (470-476 MHz) Have you tried different lengths of bare conductor to see the effect on reception?

I bought a $60 antenna off Amazon yesterday, waiting for it to be delivered probably tomorrow, in the meantime I searched “homemade tv antenna” and this was the 1st video that popped up. Literally, took 5 min, got 32 stations!! I’ll probably send the other one back and save my $60 😂

Thanks dude for posting something so simple to do! A few years ago I got suckered into buying a very expensive and useless antenna from crutchfield. My dad helped me put it up and I thought I had a winner on the first day (which was a clear and non-windy day) but then reality set in a few days after. Wish I had seen this before because I sure as hell am not going up and down the damn roof to adjust that big ass thing just to get a good picture. For sure this summer it's coming down as it's a damn eye sore. This is awesome!! Thank you!!!

A UHF coaxial dipole. Used to make that design for the two meter Ham band and 440 MHz FM band. There was also a few business 2 way Radio antenna companies that used that kind of design for their antennas. 73 Jimmy, WX9DX

When I first saw this I said to myself.... sure.... right.... like the kid that said you could get faster internet by taping 2AA batteries to an old sneaker and hang it behind your computer.... or whatever the trick was ....but after reading all these positive reviews I HAVE to try this. Also I get a kick out of some of the (must be) young folks that never were without cable and they think we are stealing something. Back in the day, before cable I remember getting all of 3 channels... maybe 4 if you got PBS on a good day.... and no color either....... thanks for the idea.... will try it tonight.... Peace
