As far as silicone molds go, brush on molds are the cheapest option as silicone is pretty expensive. It just takes more time.

Yes, the skull was a resin skull that I purchased on Amazon. I am planning a tutorial on how to make the bottom jaw in a block mold.

That was a good info video on how to make the mold but what was the total cost if u have 2 buy everything from start 2 finish of the project and where is the best place 2 buy all the stuff 2 make the molding material's? Thxs

There is definitely an investment if you plan to make silicone molds. The silicone that I recommend is the brushable silicone from Smooth-On. It costs around $75 for the trial kit and you will want to use almost all of the silicone that comes in the kit for this mold. I don't recall how much the plaster strips cost me but I would guess it's around 5-10 dollars for the amount used on the support shell. I bought the plaster strips on Amazon.

How long did you let the skull dry before taking it out of the mold? This looks so good!

The full skull needs at least 6 hours to cure and sometimes longer. The half skulls usually cure in 1 to 2 hours as they are exposed to air/moisture. I have another video that shows you how to cast Loctite in these silicone molds. When you remove the plaster shell, gently squeeze the skull. If it is still squishy, you need to wait longer.

Was the Vaseline used in between the silicone and plaster layers?

No, plaster will not stick to the silicone. However, it will stick to itself, so when you make the second shell, make sure you put vaseline on the break line.

Hey, is there a reason the skulls don’t have a bottom jaw? Is it just for aesthetic or to do with casting?

I have a separate block mold for the lower jaw. I would not be able to make a 1 piece glove mold with the lower jaw attached to the master, it would have to be a 2 piece mold. Also, the skull would then be static with whatever jaw pose you had on your master. With a separate mold for the lower jaw I can pose the skull with closed or open mouth.

What were the keys made from?

The keys were cut out of leftover silicone from a previous project. Silicone sticks to silicone. you can get key trays from BITY mold supply and make your own keys that way also.

do you do the same with the bottom jaw ? Ive seen ahead of this video that you have bottom jaws seperate

For the bottom jaw I use a block mold, it just wouldn't work with a glove mold. I plan to make a block mold tutorial in the future.

Maybe a stupid question but can you use silicone caulking

I have seen silicone caulking used for very small impression molds. I do not recommend it for this type of mold. You would probably spend the same amount of money or more using caulking for the skull and it most likely wouldn't work properly.
