How to Make a Silicon Mold Using the Soapy Water Silicon Mold Making Process - Adding the Thick Coat
This video demonstrates how to use the "soapy water" technique with GE %100 Silicon Clear #1 in order to complete the final "thick" coat for a silicon mold. This is the 2nd step after applying the detail coat. The detail coat is a more expensive Smooth-On 25, therefore by using the cheaper and more available (most hardware stores supply GE silicon) GE %100 Silicon Clear #1, the artist can complete the proper thickness of 1/4 - 1/2 inch by saving time and money.
Materials:
Dish Pan
warm/hot water
3-4 table spoons of Dawn dish soap (preferably blue)
