How To Make a SIGNET RING by Hand | Jewellery Making Tutorial

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We took these old bangles, melted them down and made them into this classic, cushion-shaped signet ring!
This has got to be one of the coolest parts of my job, the sentimentality of taking something that was once loved but now unworn and transforming it into something else that will be loved, worn and passed down from generation to generation - it's a good feeling to be part of something so beautiful and meaningful!

oh man, it's so cool that you posted this! when i was first learning to make signet rings, there were so few videos on youtube that showed you how to make them by hand - most go via the cad or wax carving route, so this is going to be so useful for lots of people :D making a signet entirely by hand is SO satisfying and fun, and it's a super useful exercise as it teaches you how to plan ahead with the measurements, while still giving you creative freedom and room to make some changes in the process, and trains your eye for achieving symmetry. everybody should try making a signet by hand at least once - every single time i've seen people do it, they're absolutely stoked about the process and the result :D thank you for sharing this!

Using tape is a fantastic idea! I usually use a clear matte spray, which works well for engraving, but for things like this it will save a lot of time!

Always dig your videos 🔥💀🔥 Would love to see one where you set a gemstone intaglio in the top. Can’t find a video to learn how to make a real traditional gemstone signet

Can you do the hammering of the ring to the 5:30 to 6:50 on silver as well, or just gold because its more soft then silver.

  • @jacothejeweller

Absolutely. In fact silver is softer than gold and definitely platinum so it’ll form so much easier 👌🏻

Great video and treasure man thank you so much 🤘 As someone else mentioned it is hard to find any how to videos on top notch signets. I am about to start using your video to make a US size 6 and another one size 8. I believe the 6 is very close to the size you made? Do you have any exact measurements for length to cut to before bending the bar into a ring shape for either size 6 or 8? I saw the equation you put on the screen but I’m a little slow 🤤Thanks OG!
