I agree and understand what you are saying - but, yesterday or two years ago or longer time ago would also have been "never a better time to make short films with your smart phone" :) I think that the point is to just go ahead and actually do it right away, because tomorrow or the future will be even better regarding technology...but it's in the mindset that makes the movie and the "use what you've got at hand mentality". (not trying to talk you down by the way :) ...just thinking out loud here).

You sir is a absolutely fantastic teacher, have learned so much from you, being paralysed from chest down and wheelchair bound with a manual wheelchair I have some extra hurdles as well as extra benefits ie dolly smooth footage etc, I'm on a budget but using the Zhiyun smooth 4 and S20 FE, love both. If only could find a good clamp to attach gimble to the oversized tubing on my wheelchair frame, anyways just wanted to say big thankyou, if your ever looking for props or a ex Eastend gangster looking wheelchairbound model look me up, I have a ww1 ww2 collection you name a item I will have it. Either way I need to meet you if only to shake your hand so if ever in West Sussex look me up.🙏

Not any regrets for the length of the video. Very valuable. At times, I said I knew that, then you told me something I had forgotten. Not an unfamiliar thing for an older person. I remember back in 1968, an 8mm system became available that would sync the image with audio on a cassette recorder. As a student, beyond my means, but I did think about how I would use the kit to make a film. Never persued it. But in the back of my mind, … . This, and my new OM4 might result in something. Maybe, “They Came For Easter Dinner”. Starring my granddaughter. Have a whole month to plan it. Excuse me, have work to do … .

Regarding apps... i use "kit scenarist" which has pretty much all modules (like Research, Characters etc etc) and more. Its a free app and only the "sync" Features cost money. I just drag and drop my files with all my devices, so i dont need the sync-feature. (Mac, iPad, iPhone).

My god that was a detailed run through. I new most of the parts of the process, but never in such details. Wish i could spend some time with you on a production, i would learn so much. Thank's for sharing so much knowledge with the community. I did a few amateurish videos of family stuff and a couple of events with both the Lumix LX100 and my Sony A-6000 at the time. Not bad but not very good either, there's quite a steep learning curve in cinema i find, but i have a solid photography background so it helps a little. I got an iPhone 12 Pro max last week after my kids kept pressuring me to change my old iPhone 5s. I am amazed by it's video quality i must admit, i just thought getting the Pro max would make things easier for me regarding phone calls, getting e-mails and searching on google, but man i see the video potential of this amazing phone so i'll be getting more equipment and start doing more movies now. I already have tripods, a video head, colour/grey chart, ND filters and even a little slider and a Rhode Lavalier mic. It is more than i need to get started i suppose, but i would also like to get a gimbal and a decent cage and focus pull system in order to try and use old legacy lenses i have. In that respect i was wondering if you could perhaps make a video on the subject. I mean i have no idea of the crop factor involved trying to fit full frame lenses on such a small sensor, what would the effective focal length of a 50mm be on the iPhone 12 Pro max for instance ? Do the lenses have to be cinema dedicated or can normal photo lenses be used ? I'm sure many of us have similar questions. By the same token could you do a bit about computers and an overview as to what we should aim for in terms of processing power, memory etc. Last time i edited videos in Adobe Premiere Pro (which i found quite intuitive for a beginner by the way), my old iMac mid 2011 could handle 4k clips or it would slow down something terrible when applying a lot of colour grading, transitions and sound effects. I was lead to believe that laptops were a good solution for rendering because of their smaller screens, is there any truth to that ? As you can see i have a lot of questions, i am really eager to learn, i have a lot of time on my hands being retired now. Yesterday i downloaded Filmic and experimented with it all day, i managed to understand the focus pull technique and it just got my imagination going even more. I have so many ideas for movies i'd like to make one day. Have a great day and again thank you sir.

I am still watching this in 2023 and in fact watched it half a dozen times. haha. This is good content. Just want to recommend another alternative to handbrake. "Shutter Encoder". I used it to transcode my pixel 7 videos to VP9 before I import it to premiere pro. This is a very good transcoder too. Free too. Realize I have watched you for so long but I haven't subscribe on this account. lol.

What a FANTASTIC video! Thank you. I run a music production studio and am a sound engineer. I am looking into smartphone filmmaking as I find it very interesting. I have my Samsung S21+, a smartphone gimbal and a Mavic Mini drone. I want to make a music video for one of my customers but my big personal goal is to make a documentary about the Island of Crete. I hope to film some hiking footage combined with drone footage and some interviews. Do you have a video on this type of film? Where the island is the main character. Thank you 😊

I love your channel! Thanks so much for providing such easy to watch educational videos. I also love your narration and voice over quality. Do you have a video in which you describe your audio setup for recording voice over?

That was amazing. I just had an idea of shooting my business, & 3 weeks later, I’m hooked on making my 30sec iPhone 13 Pro ad into a Pinewood Studios Production. Very well explained, without going into too much detail. Can I ask; Will FilmicPro handle Moment lenses without black out?
