Glad to see someone else with mobility issues doing what they love, and doing it so well too. I just got a bar-stool for my shop as I can't stand very long. I have been working on getting my shop set up for the first time and have been restoring a few old flea-market/yard-sale planes. Any suggestions from anyone on free/extremely cheap video editing software for a Microsoft PC? I want to put out some videos, but my only camera (a cheap, cheap, cheap one) doesn't have a mounting screw hole in the base, so I'll have to figure out something else to hold it for me while I try to work on wood crafts. I will be starting out with this as a first hobby ever and am on a fixed income for now until I finish college to be qualified to return to the workforce. I haven't had a paycheck since August 2013. So any sincere suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (I am studying to be a middle school math teacher. It is the only job I could think of where I would like the work and be able to sit or stand as required by my difficulties).

Thomas Russell I don't know what version of Windows you have, but after a quick look I found this program. ccm.net/download/download-2289-free-video-editor I hope it helps, but if it's no good, message me and I'll have a more thorough look for you. All the best for your future career, and I wish you well.

Thanks for sharing! This is perhaps the simplest scissor lift design I have seen. The only issue is that, when the table is elevated both legs are under one side, so the table becomes unstable if more weight is applied on the unsupported side.

Thank you very much for this build. I'm preparing to build a vertical stack dust deputy project with a 20 gallon eagle1654 drum, and was trying to figure out how I could raise and lower the drum for emptying independently from the lid since the lid will be fixed to the dust deputy. This is the perfect solution! Thank you once again. God bless!

Thanks Jack, You gave me and idea on how I am going to build the lift mechanism for my Dust collector bucket, I have a 15 gallon barrel that I will raise to nest with the bottom of my Cyclone base plate I only need to lift the barrel about 1 inch. I though about the scissor jack concept however seeing how easy it was for you make I am going to employ your concept. However I think I will make a wood track to put inline skate wheels or bearings to ride on the wood track. Thanks Lane.

Nice! Maybe next video could be about how to make some crank handle with rod that have larger indentation(so you would not need to crank it for few minutes to raise/lower it). Maybe some handle that would be hidden in table and you could just push it out and use it.

Great idea for in caravans & stuff. I also bet tiny homes would love that. You should make garden furniture like it. Like if you stop of @ a caravan site they can pull out all the hidden furniture & set up on site would be awesome if the chairs erected like your table.. Anyways thank you very much really nice pleasant video.

Nice job Jack, I always enjoy your videos! Observation about the glued-in nut: Since the rod is pulling toward the drill, I am thinking it would be stronger to have the nut on the other side so that it is pulled into the the cross-piece rather than relying on the glue to hold it.

  • @rick_.

Hmmm... I'm pretty sure it pulls to lift, since the distance between the tops of the x's gets smaller as it goes up. If I am wrong, so be it, but I don't want you getting hurt if I'm right and it drops the sander on you.

you raised John to new Heights! (did you see what I did there?) great job and vid as always Jack, enjoyed that. I suppose this design could be modified for a small router lift or similar. incidentally I like the angle grinder cross cutter but I think I'd prefer to stand behind and pull rather than risk a lot of sparks down the front it my shirt! just sayin'. thanks for sharing mate.
