I have so many pretty fabrics that I really don’t want to cut up. This is a perfect way to make a quilt and keep the designs. Thank you.

Yes, I love patchwork pieced quilts but when you have a great print, it is just so hard to cut it. You can use those prints as backings, but this project lets you feature two pretty prints! Thanks for watching and happy creating!
Thank you so much for this video. I've just started quilting and have never seen a quilt made this way! I'm definitely going to try it. I'm on my second whole cloth quilt - hope to graduate up to the "regular" piece quilting soon. Beautiful material! Thanks so much!!!

Hi! Yes, that’s what this project is for. It is also a great way to just practice the quilting technique and not have the added time commitment of patchwork piecing a top-which can also be a lot for someone new to sewing and quilting. Plus, when you have a really pretty fabric you sometimes don’t want to cut up the lovely print! Happy Creating and thanks for the encouragement!

Hi again Sheree! I am currently making two projects this way. I’m making a wall hanging for my grandson’s bedroom with Steampunk fabric. I will be turning it tomorrow and then doing the quilting. I’m also going to start the in-between blanket and use different flannel which is of better quality than what I originally planned on using. On my list, is to get some of that polka dot fabric from Tula Pink for a future project. Hope you are well!

Love your fabrics. Who is the musician at end of video loved that too!
Looks like a quick, easy quilt to make. I especially like the the suggestion to use flannel instead of batting. Did you not iron your fabrics before sewing? I’m a little OCD and was wondering if there were any issues with the wrinkles.
@shereesalchemyshop
10 ай бұрын
I pressed the fabrics lightly. Because I used cotton batting and cotton fabric, I know they will both shrink up some and get crinkly. You can of course iron your fabric as much as you like. If you don’t want your quilt to look crinkly after wash you should pre wash your fabric and use a polyester batting which will not shrink up much.
Just found your channel. Is this similar to a WholeCloth Quilt? What is the finished size of your quilt? Super nice finished quilt.
@shereesalchemyshop
3 ай бұрын
I can’t remember but you lose about an inch on all sides as you sew with 5/8th inch seams and then quilt it. So figure out the size you want and add an inch around for seaming. Hope that helps!
I just discovered your channel and I've already taken a peek at your Etsy store. I love both. So help me out a little bit with the Quilters math, if you cut 62-in (width of fabric 44 or 45 in?) is that roughly three and a half yards of each fabric? PS the fabric is gorgeous!
@shereesalchemyshop
10 ай бұрын
Hi and welcome to the channel. So a yard of fabric is equivalent to 36 inches (3 feet). So 62 inches is just short of 1.75 or 1 and 3/4 yards (which is 63 inches). And yes, these fabrics are 44 inches wide. So I started with two fabric pieces that were 61 inches long and 44 inches wide. Hope that helps and makes sense!
Hi Sheree, this is the second time I watched this video and I think, in my case, it would be the perfect answer to that in-between blanket for Fall. I would put flannel in the middle. Do you suggest that I wash the flannel before I make the quilt? I think the flannel shrinks, unless if I can fine some used flannel around the house. This will be for a queen-size bed. Thanks for the great video!
@shereesalchemyshop
9 ай бұрын
Hi. Yes, using flannel would be a great option. It really depends on the flannel and the fabric. The cotton batting I use shrinks 1-2 percent. So if your flannel doesn’t shrink much, I’d say you are fine not to wash. You could pre wash and dry the flannel and outside fabrics. Then you know it’s all preshrunk. Different fabrics will shrink differently depending on the manufacturer. The designer quilters cottons I used shrink very little. One thing you can do is a test swatch. Quilt a 6 inch sand which and wash it and dry it. Then re-measure and see if it looks too puckered for your taste. That way you don’t make a big quilt that your aren’t happy with. I hope this helps a bit! Hugs, Sheree

@@shereesalchemyshop Thanks for the suggestions. I realized that I have a large piece of flannel that I used to use for my design wall. That’s what I will use. It has been washed many times so it is ready to go!
Just found your channel. Planning a whole cloth quilt; love the top fabric I've chosen, BUT I can only find my backing fabrict in 45" width. Do you think it will be ok to piece the back? Quilt will be queen size. I like to round the corners on baby quilts. Do you ever round them?
@shereesalchemyshop
2 ай бұрын
Most quilt fabric is now 44 inches wide. But there is 108 inch wide quilt backing. And some flannels and cottons can be found that are 55 inches wide-they are usually marketed for apparel. You can use sheeting as a backing as well. I like to round my edges on some blankets but I don’t usually on quilts. Rounded corners are a sweet touch for baby blankets.
Very nice! I’ll have to try it again when I did the stitching the batting was not flat what did I do wrong
@shereesalchemyshop
10 ай бұрын
Was the issue when you did the quilting stitches? Or the edge stitching? It could be two things-your quilting/sewing machine doesn’t have differential feeding, so it’s not allowing all of your layers to go through together, resulting in bunching. It could also be an issue with your layers. When you make your sandwich, you have to make sure the batting and all layers are flat. Basting in place can help you or you can also spray paste (spray basting comes in a spray can and you can follow those directions). Practice makes better, so start with a smaller blanket maybe. A little lap quilt that’s like 24th he’s square is always a nice place to start. Hope this helps!

practices with small squares-using some scraps. Play around with your machine settings (tension, stitch length, etc.) to see if those adjustments help. It is so machine depending sometimes. Good luck!
Did you have any trouble with the fabric bunching up when you got to the edges? That would be my only concern. Beautiful fabrics though and a great quick way to make a gift!

I didn’t. But the things I did in this video help prevent that issue. Give it a try and hopefully it works for you.

Yes you can use pretty much any fabric for these double sided blanket quilts. Fleece can be a bit tricky to quilt. You could hand tie if you are new to quilting.
