General advice based on my experience: measure out an extra, or two extra pleat(s) when cutting the initial fabric. I had the same experience where i had to take out 3 pleats to make it fit, so just measure out a bit more fabric to begin with.

Also be ready to have to dart the fabric up top, or make it bigger for the butt lol. This is my first clothing project, so it's definitely a learning process.

hmmm, it depends on your measurements. If you're about the same size as me then 2 yards should be fine. Hope this helps!

Great video on how to pleat! I learned a lot from watching this! I think that the best way to get the correct size of the skirt is maybe to measure a bit lower down on the body and not measure the waist where it's the smallest. As the pleats are sown down the skirt is the size of the skirt should be the size where the bottom of the pleats hit. Then the waistband can be the correct waist size and slightly sinch it in. Hope that makes sense.

Yes, I watched all the way through , and I FULLY intend to watch it multiple times again!!! Very clear, nicely explained. BUT, this (and most EVERY pleated skirt video I see) say to start with the waist measurement, (ok, fine so far) but then sew the pleats 4,5,6 inches straight down. If you do that, it's not going to fit over your hips, and butt! It needs to be wider over the hips,than what the waist is. I'm sorry, but I don't see how it can work! 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

I think it does work especially with the help of the zipper and potentially adding more inches for the width of the pleats, but give it a try with some old fabric and see how it goes!! Let me know if you have any questions!💕✨

@@ShaniaShania thanks Shania! I fully plan on making and/or buying many more skirts, but another VERY frustrating thing is that I get A LOT of negativity, because "guys aren't supposed to wear skirts)! 🤬 I like wearing them!!!

I think the reason it didn't fit you was because you topstitched the pleats down to four inches without taking into account that your circumference 4 inches below your waist is larger, cause its kinda on your hips :-)

What kind of fabric do you think is best for a skirt like this? I’ve heard that twill polyester is standard for pleats but it’s hard to get it to pleat at home without super high heat
