How to Make a PLASTER MOLD on the Wheel

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Learn how to make a plaster mold on the wheel with this plaster mold making tutorial. I also show you, briefly, how to mix plaster. Making plaster molds can be messy and time consuming but this technique makes it EASY. I had this crazy idea and it actually worked pretty well. I made a mold completely on the wheel. No clamps, no wood boards, no table needed. It made the plaster nice and round too. If you're making round molds give this a try.

    No I don’t. I don’t use them so I’ve never had a reason to make them. I assume you could throw a ring wall of clay and just fill it right there on the wheel. 🤷‍♂️

    Hi Jim! =) That's a fantastic video and thank you so much for showing that method. Did you say that you throw the clay on a plaster bat? How do you manage to get the plaster mould off the bat at the end? I always thought the plaster surfaces would stick and I wasn't sure if you needed to add some mould soap or something to prevent sticking. Hope to find out more from you about this. Thank you so much!

    I threw it on a plastic bat. I talk pretty fast and slur my words sometimes. It came off pretty easy. You can add plaster on plaster but you need to add mould soap. I use Murphy’s oil soap. At least three coast and wipe off in between. Thanks!

    Make a small mold/drying bat or let it dry in the bucket and then throw it away.

    Can you make slip mold that you would pour into it? Is it just clay watered down?

  • @CeramicJim

    @CeramicJim

    5 жыл бұрын

    You could pour into this mold if you wanted to. It may be hard to get out due to the foot but I’d have to try. Slip IS just watered down clay but slip for casting is modified a little bit with what’s called a deflocculant so it casts better.

    With the finger grooves you made in the clay, how do you get the slip cast bowl out of the mold?

  • @CeramicJim

    They’re not deep enough to cause an issue. The foot right however was a little difficult with casting. I don’t use this mold anymore.
