Thank you for this well explained tutorial. The best and beautiful result i've ever seen with this method on youtube. I did one yesterday for my 7 years old cat, it came out very good and strong. I still wait for him to accept it, well... you know... CATS! 😂

Very best way I've seen a pet bed made from a sweater or sweatshirt. I do have one suggestion. For the dimple, you might consider using yarn instead of thread. That would ensure it will hold, despite the tension.

just want to add i have today made 2 cat beds, the first one i didnt get quite right, i wasnt watching the video as i was sewing and didnt sew the cuffs in to the hem, i ended up slipping 1 cuff inside the other and doing a zigzag stitch over them, so as i have 3 cats i made a second one which is purrrr-fect and i will be doing a 3rd one when i get some more filling......suggestion to people recycling, an old pillow that you are going to throw out can be recycled as filling, and so can old duvets, as i dont have any more to recycle i will be having a walk around the second hand shops, some times you can pick up a duvet for a couple of £. Anyway thank you again for the video, 2 of my cats are curled up and fast asleep.....mind you one of my cats was sitting on a half made bed while i was stitching on the sewing machine giggle giggle :-)

i used an adults size 12-14 jumper for 1 cat, and as t my step daughters cat is a small kitty, i used one of my step daughter sweat shirts which she has grown out of, and its probably an aged 10-12 which . will suggest if people have toy dogs, or small cats/kittens, childrens jumpers or sweatshirts are the perfect size for tiny pets

Whaaaa! Brillliant idea and what cat or dog, depending on the side of the dog (mine are 2 Newfoundlands 14 years young and weigh 60kilos) wouldn't love to cuddle in it. A big advantage is that the comfy bed has their masters odour and not petrol smelling bought beds. I collected all my sweat shirts from my trips round the world to make patchwork quilts for me and my son. Now I can make some soft beds for my 14 spoilt rotten cats who grab my quilt to make themselves comfy. I am so grateful to you. When you smile the world smiles with you. Thanks for sharing and caring. I Your fan from France. 👍👍👍

Ok, this is a fabulous idea to hold onto for the next time my Chiweenie Lucy needs a new bed. She likes to be covered like her own little cave. So in the summer I put it in a large pillowcase that I've starched stiff on the band so she can scoot her nose under and get between the bed and the pillowcase, for winter I made a fleece pillow case.

You CAN just do a dimple in the center. But another option is to either sew on a button (using the same dimple method) or, if you don't have a button, mimic one. I did that. What I did was this: BEFORE closing the circular area, find the center and gather a small area of fabric. Stuff this area with a small amount of filling. Hold in place with a rubber band. Then sew the "button" together by hand. Remove rubber band. Once the circular area is closed, use the same method for dimpling working under the button.

Would this work with a large sweatshirt? That way the dogs nails couldn't catch on the stitches in the sweater. I love your tutorials and you are so creative and charming. I saw your tutorial on folding fabric one evening, went to bed and couldn't sleep thinking about it so I got up and spent the night refolding fabric. I still have more to go but it looks so pretty and I love that there are no loose threads, they are all hidden. Thank you for all your hard work. I have learned so much and I look forward to each new tutorial.

First of all, this is so great! Question though. What's the purpose of the dimple? Is it to help with structure maybe? Purely cosmetic? Would you say this bed is washable?

  • @SewVeryEasy

I just though the dimple would be cute, however, it will help keep it's shape. I would think it would be washable, if it would fit in the machine!

I don't have a pet, but found this fascinating to watch how it was constructed. Using the walking foot to "drive" around the sweater reminded me of a matchbox car and made it very clear where to stitch at the same time. With a dog's super sniffer nose, would it be helpful to have the owner's scent left on the sweater? I'm serious here! :-) And what would the consequences be if I bought a used sweater from a thrift shop and it had a lingering scent from an unlikeable owner? Sure I'd wash it first. Does a dog even care? I'm pretty sure a cat would, but then I'm more of a dog person.

because it just a pillow and stuffing you can wash it on a gentile load. Try adding a second pillow in to keep it balanced.

you can, however You would need a machine that can handle the size. I would check with them or make one and see how it works out for them:)
