How to make a Pallet Wood Clock.
Pallet Wood Clock- Pallet Wood Challenge
This was such a simple project in execution but was a lot of fun. I am not a big fan of pallets wood usually. It tends to be dry and brittle and nearly just plain crappy wood. I know some folks have gotten lucky and found some nice wood in them from time to time.
This wood is primarily pine and the only power tool I used on them was a jig saw and sanders.
This is my first attempt at a distressed finish. I have watched many you tube creators do it much better than I did. The numbers I bought off eBay some time back for a few $$ I don’t recall exact price but they were very reasonable. I got the clock components online and was sure to use a “high torque” mechanism for these large hands of the clock.
Thanks for watching and best of luck with your project!

You get a gold star for the extra effort in that layered finish. Awesome build!
Like the looks of the clock. The way you painted it gives me more ideas for my unique clocks. Thanks

Dang!! That is a beautiful piece of creative handiwork!! I just love it. I'll definitely be making some to post on a local Handmade site here at home. Thanks for sharing this Chris!
Love the video, Chris! Actually, I love how you did the painting and the way your clock turned out. I'm going to do the same except that I plan to have my planks run vertically. Nice job. Thanks!
Gorgeous
Nice project, Chris!
Beautiful! I actually liked it when you had the distressed white & stain look but finished product is incredible! I’m at a standstill for my next pallet project but now I think I’ve officially found it! Thanks for the idea!

Beautiful clock! Love the suggestion of rusting the brad nails in a wee bit of vinegar and bleach so the nails don't stand out against those fabulous rusted numbers you scored (on Ebay, I think you said). Great video, very inspiring, m'dear!

Very Neat Chris, Looks great, I like the way you added the color and stains to get that rustic look and the numbers made it Pop. It was neat to actually see it in your shop as you were working on it, Thanks for having me over and All The Best

nice clock Chris. when i need to make a circle for my clocks i use a straight board and screw my router to the end with a straight bit in it and measure the diameter of the circle and screw it into the wood, plundge my router bit in about 1/4" and spin it around lowering my bit till I'm throw the wood

Yes another great option... To be honest with their wood I preferred the minimum of my tools go near it! :) I always try to be sure there are no nails left but seems liek I always find one with a planner blade or something so I was trying to keep that to a minimum. The method you speak of is an excellent way to do it. Thanks for watching! Chris
Like it!👍
Nice Job Mr. Pine.

Great video! And I thought you did a terrific job of the painting, too.. I'm going to try my hand at one now and use some rusted numbers I've been saving as well. Thanks!

Beautiful work great understanding of how many layers/colors of paint accumulate over the years. HonestlyI would’ve liked it better if you left out the last coat. The white and red layer looks a lot better. Still a wonderful job!

+Chris Pine ALWAYS!! and I know what you mean..lol I had a very old craftsman from the laye 50's that my father gave me when I first started Woodworking and I used it so much I ended up burning it out! so I bought a new one..u know that ever so popular DeWalt from Home Depot LOL.have a good one man..
How do you know what size clock hands to use?
love the clockand video.. question... did you have to notch out a square in the back so the shaft of the clock would stick out? If so have did you do that?
where did you get the long clock hands???
What type of paint did you use? Did it matter to help it stick to your wood when you sanded it?
How did you hang it?
The font of the numbers is Playbill
Nice work, when I take pallets apart I save the rusty nails for use when the looks is needed :)

I also have a can of rusty nails form pallets... They are much bigger than I wanted to deal with for the numbers.. The otters trick is amazing how fast it rusts the nails... Like a made chemistry experiment. :)

Strange - I was watching something recently where soaking in vinegar (and salt?) was done to REMOVE rust! Certainly my wife used a vinegar and salt solution to clean copper pieces prior to kiln enamelling when she used to make jewellery.
how big are your hands and size of clock

I'm a newbie to this, what grit sandpaper did you use between paint coats? Great video by the way

I believe I started with 150 but switched to 100 grit and that worked better to take pain off as desired.
