I made a cheap PVC staff/flute and I found that drilling 2 parallel holes, 1 on either side of the pipe for the air exhaust hole, as opposed to one large hole improved the strength of the staff. Thank you for your inspiration.
The Bob Ross of wood working. Another great installment.

A tip you may want to share, if anyone is worried about cutting round materials, make a V block, this can easily be done on a table saw with the blade set at 45 degrees, For those without a tablesaw, you can get 45 degree moulding, glue 2 pieces to a base block.
Great video. Love the how-to videos on playing and making the flutes.
Thanks Mr Charlie, I'm 50% Cherokee myself, love your video's, thanks again my friend.
Great video, I've watched many of yours. I always learn something new, and they're always entertaining. Please keep up the good work. Thank You!
Your videos are awesome. I have learned 90 percent of my flute making skills from your vast knowledge that you share with everyone Thank You
Wish river cane grew in my neck of the woods , great video
wow...cool flute. .
Awesome video keep up good work
Thanks, Charlie, just got my hands on some long-enough bamboo, so starting on my walking stick today (sans drill press, Forstner bit, belt sander, alas!) The nodes are much closer together than your river cane, but I learned some great tips, so forging ahead...thank you!

Have you ever seen this done with a solid stick? I've got a walking stick that has an incredible shape, and I think would make an amazing flute. But I haven't seen any methods to hollow out a stick.

HAHAHA! I've seen and done it all! Have you seen the solid wood ones for sale in my website? bluebearflutes.com/product-page/copy-of-pine-native-american-flutes
walking stick native american flutes are fairly recent, but walking stick/cane flutes, violins, and other instruments have been around for a couple hundred years.
What is hilarious is that I actually said "no he didn't" when you dabbed, then you said it. The wife and I are both ROFL. Great video, as always, my friend.

Excellent !! Curious Bamboo or River Cane which has a better tone quality ?
Could you do a video of one made out of bone
Can you put a hard rubber plug on one of these to prevent wear? Less than traditional, perhaps, but practical.

Yes, a rubber foot is feasible
In the future as I learn more to play, as I'm a beginner. I would like a walking stick flute. But would like it to be hard wood. One that I could use to defend myself. I'm getting older (as I'm retired) so if I'm out in the woods and a bear comes around I could "wack-it" and if I'm in the dangerous streets I could ward-off on comers. And I ward them off I could play them a tune to wake up to. Is it possible Charlie?

www.bluebearflutes.com/product-page/bo-staff-native-american-flute Have you seen this one?
Hi Charlie, I followed your video with a nice piece of bamboo which seem to be the same dimensions as the piece you worked with and followed the measurements you showed, though I had to convert your inches into mm's and may be out a couple of mm here and there. F# 5. 5 1/2" - 140mm 4. 6 5/16" - 160mm 3. 8" - 203mm 2. 9 1/4" - 235mm 1. 10 5/16" - 262mm Tuning hole - 15 1/2" = 394mm Good: It plays a fundamental of F# :) Not so good: At 432hz All holes covered = f# -15 4 holes covered = flicking between B flat -45 and A +45 3 holes covered = C 2 holes = D-40 1 covered = E -20 No holes covered = F# 20 Any suggestions how I can save this flute, or is my only option to plug and redrill the finger holes? Thanks in advance
G'day Charlie Just a quick question. Will you be doing a Quena build? I am have some trouble with forming the V to a good shape, the tuning was hard to find , but I have that now.. I love the sound of Quenas and making one is another challenge. Another fantastic video. No I am not just stroking you, you all are good at these. Tom

Playing one is a big challenge, too! I made a bone flute with the notch, and it's...interesting.
Is it possible to make a walking stick flute out of 2"+ diameter bamboo? I would like a deep sounding flute and I'm not sure if it's possible.
I just bought your book but I can't find the oil used inside the flute. Please what is it made of.
Nice walking stick brother I have bamboo I'm going to build a couple of them do you think I could get it a out of a three-quarter inch piece of bamboo
I have a piece of bamboo with multiple “linkages” that would be in the path of the holes, is there any way to work around that?

I believe I have a couple of videos on working with bamboo flutes that might help you including making a flute for under $3 out of a tiki torch!! Please check them out in the videos list on my channel. We are currently in the process of making an additional video about that however.
Hi there, Great video I just salvaged some bamboo from my bosses burn pile and would like to do the same, so sugar cane is different from bamboo? do you have a video making one with bamboo ?

Great question! Sugarcane is certainly different from bamboo or river cane. Here's a link to one of my videos making a flute from bamboo. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qmeI3JKjZ9fakrw.html
great video a bit beyond my abilities though thanks for sharing
how much is your stick flute thank you for your time.
Within the walking stick flute how many inches long is the actual flute section?
@BlueBearFlutes

Since our walking stick flutes are made in the key of E, the interior of the flute portion would be the size of our E flute. Roughly 22 incnes long.
nice job what's your price range for the flute walking sticks
