HOW TO MAKE A MULTIPLE STAR KNOB JIG | A MUCH EASIER PROCESS

I already have a star knob jig for making 3 beam star knobs. So I wanted to have a jig to make 4 beam, 5 beam and 9 beam star knobs and I wanted one jig for all of them. I managed to make a all in one jig. I built it so it can be used with forstner drill bit's instead of hole saw's. The kind of hole saw's I own, are always very bulky and leave not enough room to make such a jig. Because I made this jig for forster bit's, it was possible to make such a multiple star knob jig. Moreover, the surfaces of the arched notches are much smoother than the ones that were made with the hole saw.

    This is, indeed, more versatile than the previous jig! Only thing I would make differently is the notching - use a smaller diameter forstner bit with deeper penetration into the knob (same arc segment, smaller radius).

    i made your jig with minor 2 changes. i only wanted 5 beam knobs so 2 less holes. i noticed how you fought to turn the piece, SO since my knobs are made from 3/4 ply i made the guide from 1/2 ply, much easier that way.

    A full circle is 360 deg, so the math is real simple. 360/4, 360/5 and 360/9. Draw the axis, with the 0 being the center. Then mark the angles.

    17:05 OK, instead of making adapters for larger holes, wouldn't it be easier to use a standard hole until knob is finished, THEN make a larger center hole? Nice jig.

    I see that people have been asking for plans, or even a simple list of the angles and size of the original circle, for 3 years. It's a shame that this entire video is a waste of time because the author cannot take 10 minutes in 3 years to give this to people requesting help. Comments like, "First, I cut two boards to the proper size" without telling us the "proper size" is just disappointing. How much more breath would it have taken to just give the two measurements?

    It's not "axle" - it's "spindle".

  • @ISIMPLYBUILTIT

    @ISIMPLYBUILTIT

    4 жыл бұрын

    Technically it's a axle. An axle does not spin and does not transmit torque. A spindle does rotate and converts rotary motion into a longitudinal movement.

  • @mfs5493

    @mfs5493

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@ISIMPLYBUILTIT Weird definition. Where did you get the "converts rotary motion, etc." from? I think you are mixing this up with "shaft" as with "crankshaft". Axles can certainly spin as on kiddies' toy cars and these are definitely not spindles or shafts. And, a spindle need NOT rotate - it can be attached to a plate for mounting on a machine and can carry a free-running gear or pulley, for example.
