How to Make A Multi-purpose, 5 Volt, USB Powered, L.E.D. Light

Ойын-сауық

Here is the link to some 5 Volt LED lights on Amazon

I'm not sure if these were exactly the same as the one I used in the video. The one I used was just a scrap I salvaged from something being thrown away.
This video is about how I made a USB powered light that I can use with a USB power supplly for portable use or plug into one of the USB receptacles in the van for continuous use. Low watt consumption, quite a bit less than using 12 volt L.E.D. strips.

Little confusion when you talked about Positive and Negative portions of the USB Cable. You made it sound like the OUTER case has the +/-, It is the 4 pins inside, and looking down the throat with the pins on the Bottom, you will have (-) to the left, and (+) to the right, the middle pins are for Date Transfer. Just look up USB Pin Assignments if anyone needs more information.

Sorry. Yes, the connection being made is inside the metal shell. I should have taken a picture showing those actual connecting parts to be clearer.

Hi minion, Thank you for the question. My experience has included plugging this light/s USB plug into a wall adapter, a USB cigarette lighter plug in a vehicle, a powerbank, a USB port on a computer all with the same results, the light works. Hope that helps you.

My only question is would it be possible to use the other end of the usb so the light could be plugged into a phone

Hi Robbie, Thanks for the question. I'm not really sure if a phone can be used as a power supply. My guess is probably not. On the phone's little usb port, the flow of the electricity is probably IN to the battery with some sort of diodes or circuitry that prevents that port from being "live" or be able to ouput electricity. Even the power bank has this kind of set up. The usb port on the power bank, to charge the power bank, is the mini usb port style while the output port where you connect something is the standard large usb port. Maybe it's an industry standard thing where the power supply is always the large port to avoid problems and make sure things are compatible.

There are now phones that have been updated to be used with USB cords to charge other phones. I can use my Samsung S20 to charge someone else's phone. This is something I would like to be tested with a light. I had a phone case that was sensitive to sound and would light up LED's in the case. It had an L connection on the bottom into the USB port.
