OK so I know this is really unrelated and random, but I really need your help. You remember your mandalorian gun prop video a while back? Yeah, that one. I just watched it for the first time and I really want to make it for my dad for Christmas. Problem is I'm 14 and don't have most of the tools and materials mentioned in the video. Can you help give suggestions on how to still make the stuff, but easier? For context I do have a 3d printer and a chop saw and a bunch of smaller tools, but no bandsaw, laser cutter, airbrush, or lathe. If you see this can you help?

I think even though it may seem to be a more scruffy way of carrying your money and so on, i still think it to be a more safer way than a wallet, .. because if you lose your wallet, or if its stolen or forgotten etc... you lose Everything.

I made a card wallet out of 3mm carbon fibre sheet a few years ago. It was just 3 pieces of carbon fibre. I drilled and countersunk loads of holes around 3 of the edges (to keep the dust from becoming airborne I had a plastic box half filled with water on my drill press), glued some Black cloth to the insides to add a little friction and stop the cards from falling out, and sewed around the edges with thin bungee elastic. It looked cool as frig, and worked well, but it did have a bit of a habit of making holes in pocket linings. :)

Perfect time to be inspired for a project like this. Gift season! And nothing beats homemade! From my limited leatherworking experience, your original design of using two base pieces was a stronger option instead of folding the base as one piece. Burnished edges have more strength and last longer to wear than an exposed, folded edge. Meaning, over time as you slide the wallet in and out of a pocket thousands of times. the folded edge is going to wear away while your burnished edges stay strong. Great project! Thanks!

Little leather working tip: when glueing a piece of rough side to the smooth side, take an awl and make scratches on the smooth side's glue area. This gives the glue a little bit more surface area to grab on to. :) Also for all those asking about RFID blocking, I believe Tandy Leather has RFID blocking paper that can be cut with a utility blade and glued onto the inside of each pocket. I don't know how effective it truly is but if it's something that will ease your mind, then it can't hurt :) plus it hardly adds any bulk to the wallet. :)

Bob, I'm a leathercrafter and have the exact same trouble when doing a saddle stitch. I have found a decent workaround using a tool called a jerk needle; it's basically a stitching awl with a crochet hook near the tip. Super easy to use, and produces a decent stitch, also is able to be used semi-quickly (it's still hand stitching after all). Otherwise this project of yours could have been done easily using that machine of yours, just a simple u-shaped pass to close your 3 sides with a continuous stitch would have been enough. I Hope to see more leathercrafting on your channel in the future!

Gotta say as a leatherworker, major improvement over your older leather work! Can I suggest dip dyeing, large sponge applicators or thinned dyes for applications like that? Helps keep the dye coat even. Skiving the edges of your pockets helps give them a more pleasing shape, and rounding corners will tend to keep their destruction down. Don't forget to edge dye before you gum tragacanth. For burnishing out the leather on your marble and burnish just off the edge of the marble, so the marble supports the edge you are working on Oh and edge bevel your edges! That will lead to rounder, cleaner rounded edges when burnishing

Drivers license, credit card, Safeway card & Costco is all I carry now. It also maintains a very low profile in your pocket, sometimes it feels like it is not even there.

I like how it came out. For anyone who wants to make something similar, I would say round the corners to help with any unwanted folding and dye the edges before slicking them. If you don't have the gum stuff use beeswax and if you don't have that sand the edges good and use water, it wont hold as well but if done right you should still have a beautiful end product.

Looks awesome. If you ever do it again, consider making t slots for the inner pockets instead of full size cuts. It will slim down the wallet a bunch. And it will make it a lot easier to punch and sew because you aren’t going through so many layers

You should get a piece of springy metal and fold it into the perfect angle to give the opening a bit of a springy feel when you want to insert cash in the center. They can be held on by little rivets and if done just right it would give the wallet more character on the outside.

I hope Bob had a look at his Bits video when he got confused with the sanding process. Great idea for a wallet. I hate big bulky wallets in my pockets.

When I first starting working with leather a few years back everyone (on youtube) was carving a stitching line into the leather. For some reason nowadays I find that everyone is marking their stitching lines instead of carving. Does anyone know if there's a benefit to this difference, or if it's purely personal taste? Fantastic video though Bob! I love seeing more people get involved with leather work.

From a hobbyist leathercrafter here who have done this for around five years. It's actually not that common to put the two needles in the hole at the same time. (Even though some people do it like that) Nice wallet, and it will just get more and more beautiful with patina.

I know not everyone has access, but I’ve been playing with using the laser to cut out your pieces and stitching holes. Seems to work really well and takes out some of the nervousness of keeping your tools in a straight line.
