    Decent tips for those starting out. I ended up quitting the game years ago, because trying to get to midstakes online wasn't a clearly great life decision given the investment of time + energy that seemed to be required even though I was winning at 50nl and occasionally jumping into 100nl games. The coaches spoke to (both won over $500k each from online cash) almost made it seem like an all or nothing task to beat mid stakes. Essentially "you dedicate yourself to poker fully or you will be wasting your time in the long-run".

I’m focusing on ranges and pre flop I’m at 10nl. It’s difficult because I feel like I’m putting them on a range based on the bets and position then they rock up with mental hands. thank you so much for this video, I really needed a lot these advices to understand how to do it. I only have a question, which is: do you consider still valid you advice about the starting stake even for tournaments? do you even consider tournaments online, especially on PokerStars, to be profitable (because of the huge variance there is on ABI 5/10)?

  • @GingePoker

    @GingePoker

    4 жыл бұрын

    Federico Santoro honestly not sure when it comes to tournies - but it's all about hourly and roi - if your grinding the $55 with a 20% roi (which is high!) you're making $11 on entry, which divided by the ace hours in the tourney which if it's 5 hours is gonna be like $2 an hour... so you need to play a lot of them and reasonably high to have a good hourly

    This was very useful and informative, thanks! Question question(s): Do you think anyone if they put in the work can make it up to stakes to a high level? Or is there a element of natural Poker talent that you just can't learn from a coach, training sites or studying etc? I.e. Is it all about who studies hardest moves up or are some people just born to be better players than others? Cheers!

  • @GingePoker

    hutchyw117 good question, I don't think I can answer that without biased. I think there is an element of all 3 things you mention, but I believe regardless of skill or natural ability it's gonna be a hard work to get to the top of anywhere so the most important quality is motivation which comes from a passion for the game or field that you are in

    Hey Ginge, literally just found you tonight but watched all your videos lol. Do you think you could make a video explaining your way of viewing Holdem Manager results? I'm new to HM3 using it for small stakes tournaments and have been looking at all in EV and bb/100 over ~5000 hands but I'm not sure how to really use the software. Maybe a video you would suggest watching about it? But would be cool to see you break down exactly how you use the software. I saw in one of your videos a graph with a green and yellow line and you said you ran a bit above EV with the green line being slightly above the yellow, I would love to be able to see something like that for my results! Also just how you would suggest looking at previous hands and trying to learn from them yourself and figure out mistakes. Thanks for the content!!

  • @GingePoker

    Thanks for watching! I'll deffo take a look at making this kind of video - but in all honesty I find hm3 much more difficult than hm2. As for tournies you've gotta be careful looking at ev tbh - deep stages in tournies you've gotta do a lot of -ev in game stuff that leads to higher pay outs (but I'm not that clued you about tournies in general)

    Does it make sense to go for a CFP to move up from 1/2 to 2/4 and 5/10 just for the coaching? I have a sufficient bankroll for 5/10 but no motivation to study unless I have some sort of a “teacher” keeping a check on me. But I’ve been mentally reluctant to spend $200/hr on a coach who may not be financially invested in me like a CFP. But then again, giving away 50% of my profits to a CFP when I don’t need the “staking” really seems excessive.

    Do you think beating the med - high stakes in tournaments could be a more viable route to pursue these days? I quit a 40k package (similar to what you did) a year ago and have been making a good amount more than I was working. Obviously the variance in MTTs can be horrible, but from what I've heard you can go on pretty horrible runs in cash too. Also, I have considered a more mixed approach doing both cash and tournaments, is this something you'd advise?

  • @GingePoker

    @GingePoker

    Difference with bad runs in cash is that it's a much stronger indicator you don't actually beat the games imo. I personally would try to master your craft whether that be cash holdem or mtts or plo, get to 90% of what you can achieve in that field before branching off

    Mitchel v.d Linde profit goals is a bad idea because you have no control over it. Volume goals are ok - but you need to really focus on quality. X amount of hours of your A game should be more of a goal, plus x amount of time reviewing and studying.

    New to your channel. Once you become a winning player playing 1 2 would you think its a good idea to start streaming as this could increase revenue? As youtube for recorded vids and twitch for live streams and also Facebook vids, plus shorts on you tube for some premium hands and strange played hand and your thought process behind the hand. Cash game is 100 BB for a full buy in vs MTTs with often about 60 to 70BB effective stacks, when antes are factored in for the first level, which only lasts 10 to 15 minutes at best. You should use GTO hand ranges for 100 BB, not the 40BB ranges used by many MTT regs. Plus you need to play a more small ball style bet wise, with patience and selective aggression, as the blinds are static and small wrt stacks, so preflop steals are for small profit. Of course, aggro raises multiple times per 100 hands can make blind stealing somewhat profitable if the blinds are nits, but the big money is building a big pot post flop, and winning with or without showdown on Turn or River, much different from many low stakes MTTs (imho).

    Hi, why do you advise Zoom vs Ring games? Is the number of hands per hour, or the less chance for colluders to share info and less time for them to strategize, or something else? I find ring games give me time to learn my opponents playing styles (but I don't use a HUD and I don't think they work on 888poker or PartyPoker (not sure).
