How to make a HOMEMADE GRAVITY FED BBQ SMOKER - best butts and brisket EVER!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Follow along as I build this beast of a smoker. I have cooked on several different smokers and this is by the far the best style around. It produces a very moist meat and i don't even think its possible to dry one out. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about the build process. MAKE YOUR OWN STUFF!!!!

That's a brilliant video, actually explains a lot and why these costs so much, due to labour time. Let alone steel. You are a craftsman sir. No one in UK doing anything like this

Nicely done video showing the construction! I have a Char Griller 980 Gravity Fed. And getting to the point of wanting a bigger smoker and something with heavier build quality. I am a professional Cad Drafter with a Tig welder in his garage. I need to get designing and build one.

@@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms I 100% agree with you on that statement!
Question: Like the masterbuilt and Chargriller gravity feed smokers. Can you add wood chunks directly into the hopper asking with the charcoal? BTW... And you dropped some amazing builds.
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms
7 ай бұрын
yes you can. you just have to make sure they are small enough chunks to fit. i like to soak a few larger pieces and put them in the very bottom where they coals will drop on them and they have a slower burn. but directly in works too. thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words!
Really nice smoker friend!! I have a an Old Country Gravity Fed and love the way it cooks but its too small. Wanting a Gravity Fed Smoker with more cook area.

@@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms No sir, I do not have the skills or the equipment to do my own build. I’ve been researching the various GF smokers & options that are currently being marketed. The one I have works great when I cook for my wife & I. But I have a large extended family that I enjoy cooking for. I’m retired firefighter and you know us FFs love to cook. It’s therapeutic for me.

@@timmcfarland2853 I think so. Just have to figure out how to mount the firebox and chute to the side of it.
Great video! Do you take orders on builds? As much as Id like to try and build one of these I doubt I would make it as well as yours and the cost from mistakes would make it prohibitive.

Hey mate, Did you insulate around the fire box? How does it manage the heat? Thanks a lot. Loved the video man, going to build my own in Australia 🤙
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms

Yes I insulated around the firebox. If you are concerned about the heat being too much, you can use kaowool around the firebox, but rock wool does just fine. I have done it both ways. Thanks for watching and good luck with your build.
How does the flavor and texture of the bbq from this sort of cooker compare to that from an offset smoker?
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms
10 ай бұрын
I think the flavor is the same. Mike depends on whether you put wood in the coal box early in the cook. The biggest difference to me is that it’s almost impossible to dry anything out in this style of smoker. It keeps the moisture like nothing else. Not the case in an offset.
Does the firebox really need to be that big? It just seems like it would create an unnecessarily large fire burning through more charcoal than whats actually needed? Yes I know airflow on alot of these is restricted but I dont believe a clean fire is created with a smothered fire.
Awesome video. I was wondering if you would sell the plans to this. We dont have many pit builders up here in Canada. So being a farm boy, i just build the things i want.

Can you tell me where to get the brass nut and grommet to add to the gravity feed I’m currently building. Thanks
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms
4 ай бұрын
Any hardware store like Lowe’s or Home Depot will have it. May have to look on the specialty aisle to find a grommet that fits inside the nut. Even if you have to get a solid grommet, you can always drill it out to fit your wires.
Very very nice. What’s a smoker of that caliber run a guy, roughly? Thanks

anywhere between 8-12k from the manufacturers online... but of course you can build them cheaper yourself if you can weld a little and cut straight lines.

How does the gravity compare to a reverse flow?
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms
11 ай бұрын
Gravity fed is referring to the way the fuel is supplied where as reverse flow is referring to the travel Of the heat/smoke. So you could have a gravity fed reverse flow smoker. In generalities, most reverse flow smokers are wood fired and made out of some type of cylinder tank. So I’m that case, a gravity fed insulated cabinet smoker like this one will be cool to the touch and much more efficient and require much less of your attention. I don’t know if that really answered your question but you can fire away if you need something clarified. I’ll be glad to help anyway I can.
I’ve watched this 4 times now and if I missed it, I’m sorry. What size square tube are you using for your frame?

Thank you. I don’t really want to say but just like anything else, you’ll have a fraction of what it cost to buy one if you have the tools and skill set to make it yourself. With this type of work, labor is going to be the most expensive part of the process so if you do it yourself, you cover that cost.
