    Great stuff Mark. Love all your gutter university videos. I am using your tips to help me replace all house's metal fascia and gutters down here in Oz. I am using aluminium gutters. But I am going with rivets rather than tek screws (as we call zip screws here) mainly as they come in matching colours and they are the most common gutter joining method here.

    When he said most machines are 5” nowadays I had to look at the date of the video. I haven’t seen a 5” machine or any new 5” install in probably 20-25 years. We are in Florida so there’s a huge difference in rainfall. But any 5” we see now is homeowner, Lowe’s, do-it-yourself, 10th’ pieces deal.

    Over here in so cal 5 inch is still mainly used as standard, but we also install flat face aka angle face, box gutter with or without bid, also 6 inch og aka standard and half round gutter, including custom gutters as well but we take those measurements to the sheet metal guys who make us the material

    Hi, thank you for sharing and instructing. I like your 'energy'. it is easy to listen to and follow exactly what you are doing. I will be watching more of your videos. I just tried to put up some gutter in this one corner where the rain pours off and splatters in front of my back garage door. I'm tired of doing the 'dance' around the pouring water to get in and out of garage (I don't have door from inside house. ) This is much harder than it looks! Might have easier with new gutters pieces.. probably. I was hampered by the snippers I had to cut the metal - they did not cut like the ones you have - what is the difference between 'red' and 'green'? And is it just your hand and arm strength that makes it look easy to cut? or is it the snippers that work so well? Because I don't ever want to do this again - my elbow and shoulder hurt from wrestling those things through the metal...

    Thanks man that is a real quick easy way to cut a miter template. I been doing gutters for only a year and a half. It takes me way longer then that to make a gutter miter template. Do you have any videos showing how you make a template for different angle corner, other then when basic corners where the fascia board 90's. A template for a odd corner? I recently became lead guy at a gutter company and never had a chance to learn patterns for weird corners and the bosses have no clue.

    Once you have a perfect 90 paint it pink or some fluorescent color. This will help prevent someone from throwing it in with the scrap. I have been using the same template for like 11 years now

    Actually, if you get used to cutting these by hand, it is just as fast as using miter boxes. With one guy cutting the pieces off the machine while his partner hangs the pieces and connects the miters, you can really put up feet quickly. Plus, you only have one seam to caulk, which makes them much less likely to leak, and you save lots of money on miter boxes and caulking!

    With the high expansion and contraction rates of aluminum especially when you get into longer pieces I think it's advisable to use a strip miter

    Well, that's a call everyone has to make for himself. I prefer to protect my hearing, and I think that cutting by hand is basically as fast as cutting with a saw. You disagree. That's really the end if the conversation, then. We don't have to agree on this, though.

    What if using vinyl gutters and you are dealing with inside and outside corners that are not 90 degrees

  • @gutteruniversity
    @gutteruniversity11 жыл бұрын

    Well, Blasty, there is certainly nothing inherently wrong with using a chop saw, but I personally see a few serious drawbacks. First, you have to set up the saw, which wastes about as much time as just cutting by hand. Second, and more important, is the loudness of the chop saw. Using a saw on metal every day WILL affect your hearing, unless you wear clumsy hearing protection. So, to save a few seconds, literally, you are going to waste time to set the saw up and damage your hearing.

    You need to finish "Gutterology 101" before you start trying to teach. Your intentions are good but the miter looks terrible! I hand make the miters on the house as I go. My tabs are on the inside of the miter and no screws in the face. Sealed on the inside and a very small amount of sealer on the seam on the outside with a little touch up of paint. Finished job looks as good as a factory seam on a box miter. Thirty five years experience and a lot of patience helps a lot. I would make a vidio but my competition would love that ! Someone would have to pay for that
