This morning I was thinking how gen 2 sprites look amazing and was wondering what makes them so special. Then I found this video. This is amazing. I really really loved it and I'm looking forward to gen 3 and 4. Nice job!

God I love this video! I love the gen 2 art style, your explanation on being creative with the coloring with the excellent examples like Raikou and Hoppip you give and how your own creative process went - along with your result!! I'm looking into gen 2 art as inspiration for a game and random art I'm thinking about making and I came here having a question about the art. Your video unfortunately did not answer it, although you came very close. Thanks to your video I now get that INDEED you can pick colors for your sprite among the more than 32,000 GBA (15-bit) colors, but INDEED you can only use white, black and two picked colors for your sprite. I got this far with my own "research" but you solidified the info for me. The question that remains for me is: why? Why only black, white and two colors? I want to know because it seems very counter-intuitive if there are so many colors available and so little stuff on screen in battles. Thank you for the video!

on the subject of the gen 2 color pallete used for the pokemon sprites, where could i get it?

How do you stretch and adjust pixel art in Photoshop with out aliasing? I know to set it to nearest neighbor for resizing but that doesn't work for stretching in canvas right.

I think it will get an evolution in gen 3 and in gen 4 get another evolution that branches from Wotter, don't know about gen 5 tho

The official sprites shown in the video? Anywhere that has sprites should have them. Bulbapedia is my usual go-to, but they are also on Serebii, Pokémon DB, The Spriters Resource and other sites.

@@UmbreonLibris I tried bulbapedia but when you zoom in the sprites get blurred and it's impossible to make out pixels so I was wondering where you found them so high resolution

Oh, you'll have to enlarge them yourself for that. There's usually an enlargement option that preserves the sharpened of the individual pixels. For example, in Photoshop it's called Nearest Neighbor sampling.

I use Photoshop, but most art programs should offer the tools you need for pixel art.
