how to make a gear of any size using PVC pipe | creative diy

In any mechanical devices ( including toys ) gears play an important role, As they are used to alter the speed & torque of moving parts . To make such gears, usually you need some complex machines such as a 3D-printer . even though there are a number of gears available in the market that you can buy easily, making one such gear is an interesting task .
This video illustrates an easy and cheep method for making a gear using PVC pipe . the main advantage of this method is that, it can be used to make gears of any size i.e the size of the gear depends on the size of the PVC pipe.
I hope you enjoy the video and do let me know in the comments below and yaa , don't forget to like , share and SUBSCRIBE to creative diy

    thanks for the idea mate, been doing fairly heavy duty tests with these for the last few months, they work well although you should try to avoid running them at extremely high rpms, either way they normally ''break'' slightly for more frequently than normal nilon gears I was using before, but they are so cheap to fix and make it almost isn't a problem

    It's a functional idea for low stress diy gearboxes.. BUT Why Not just cut circular objects out of any solid materials you have laying around with a cheap set of Hole Saws which automatically give you a centered hole ? Eliminating the need to attempt to get a center hole (99% of Y.T. watchers will end up with a wobbling off center gear) and having to deal with Epoxy & it possibly failing.. Round object + Super Glue + Timing Belt + Gears properly spaced on axles secured with no movement = A Functional Low Stress Gear Set Up That I'd Guess Was Closer To The Quietness Of Belt Drive Vs Noisy Gears.. 👍

    Nice idea. Have you tried building something with multiple gears to test the strength of the glued on gear tape? And what exactly is that tape? Looks like it came from an old printer

    thanks :) it's not a tape , its called timing belt and ya its used in printers . i haven't tested its strength too much... but i think it will be fine for some normal operations. will definitely try to come up with a video were multiple gears will be use :)

    Your title is highly misleading.... You buy the tooth strip, and is limited to the few pipes available

  • @creativedy

    @creativedy

    Anuar Del Castillo , this video is all about teaching people in making their own gear using PVC pipe. if you visit a hardware store near you then, you will realize that PVC pipes with different diameters are available, from half an inch to 5 inch , isn't that enough for you bro. And still if u want to make gears smaller than half an inch then all you need is to replace the PVC pipe with an object (like a pen) that has a proper cylindrical shape and the rest of the steps are all the same as shown in this video. so the size of the gear is only limited by your imagination. About the tooth strip, its called timing belt and is mainly used in your printer to obtain precise movements. designing such tooth for your gear is not at all easy as you think and any miss calculations during your designing will lead you into making a gear with non uniform tooths And i don't want any of my viewers ending up in such a mess. :)
