it's safe to say that nintendo 64/playstation 1 jungle and dnb music are having a big revival - and I'm here for it. I've been producing drum and bass since 2006, and actually, it was my real first foray into electronic music production! it was kinda on the decline back then - it's awesome to see it shine again!
so I decided to make a big one-hour tutorial going through EVERYTHING you need to know to get started: what (free and paid) plugins you should get; which drum breaks are the most popular and iconic; how to slice and process them; music theory etc.
I tried to use mostly free plugins in this video although I've used some paid ones. here's a breakdown:
FREE PLUGINS:
Nils‘ K1v - Kawai K1 Emulation Plugin VSTi/AU: www.nilsschneider.de/wp/nils-...
MeatBeats OrbHits: meatbeats.gumroad.com/l/orbhits
Wavosaur Rave Generator 2: blog.wavosaur.com/rave-genera...
Kilohearts essential bundle: kilohearts.com/products/kiloh...
FREE PLUGINS I DIDN'T GET TO SHOW IN THE VID:
Vital: vital.audio/
MeatBeats Micro Keys: meatbeats.gumroad.com/l/micro...
PAID PLUGINS:
Korg M1:
NI Absynth 5: discontinued :/
Chordimist: payhip.com/b/D2m1L
00:00 intro
02:15 overview of synths and atmospheric sounds
09:18 music theory, chords, and MIDI chords generators
18:51 drum breaks (finally!)
26:35 a semblance of a beat (finally!)
28:00 909 drums
34:53 bass
41:57 lead synth
45:13 bells
47:07 rave stabs
56:27 FULL FINAL SONG

they are the pinnacle of sound design ahah
Big ups bro! a lot of these tutorials just how to pads, amen and bass, but you really dived in a bit deeper on the fundamentals of what separates that PlayStation style compared to just atmospheric 90s jungle.
There's also that one LABS collection called "Atmospheric Pads". Really good for Jungle.
Cracking tune thought id check it out. So many times you put a ps disc in and it played the album the days.
Always looking forward to your videos! Great work as always, thanks.

Very well done. And respect for reproducing things in respect to originality (keeping things mono/using bit crushers, ect.)

a lack of dynamics is crucial for this genre it is lifeless without a proper compression

@@BIGUMAMI That means a lot! I'm an amateur producer myself and got a LOT of value out of this, I made sure to share the video. Just finding that Kawai K1 Emulation plugin was nuts, I can't believe that's free. Keep up the great work. 👊

well, yeah. BUT! if you wanna stay close to that classic sound, I assure you that a lot of that stuff was in mono. must be because of the actual hardware limitations.

@@BIGUMAMICould you provide some examples of popular jungle tracks used in video games that are in mono? I can’t seem to find any.

@@ethanknight9128 Not the full tracks, but durng production the bass, drums and sometimes pads were, indeed, mono.

@@ethanknight9128 The samples used to be in mono, not the finished tracks! You can create nice atmospheres using mono samples + reverb and delay.
