How To Make a Foundation Double Crochet, Tutorial by Craft and a Cuppa

Hi everyone! Here is a little tutorial on how to make a foundation double crochet. It is a really good way to start your work as it has a lot of stretch to it and it is much more accurate when working with made to measure patterns. It is also a fantastic way to start off a blanket and will prevent your blanket from curving.

Thank you so much. You are delightful! I love how you “crack on” and show us how things are done! I really appreciate your tutorials. Now I off to start the Odds and Ends Sweater (or jumper as we call them here in Australia!) Cheers 😊

Ahh amazing! Yes we actually call them jumpers too but I've been "training" myself to say sweater as I know jumper often means a playsuit in other countries 😆

I'm about to make your pick and mix and almost opted out of learning this stitch. I'm so glad I slowed down and took the time to learn. This is cool! Fyi: I did it with black yarn! 🤣😬

Yikes well done for that!! Yes it can be fiddly at first but once you get the hang of it, it's like riding a bike. It's a fantastic method for garments as it's super stretchy 🥰

Oh my god. I did it. In me do it. Wooohoo. Thanks for the tutorial! I finally got it and it's so much better than a chain and work into it. First I thought it'd take so much longer. But tbh... Once I have to chain and then work in over 20 stitches I always hate how wobbly it gets. Also the feeling of oh no... I don't have not enough chains to crochet into even after counting five times to make sure and having to unravel everything which makes me not want to start again. This solves that. Haha. Thanks so much.

Yay that's amazing news! Once you get the hang of it more, it does get quicker as well! Very well done! 🎉🥳❤️

@@CraftandaCuppa thank you for the encouragement! 🤗 I had one hangup in the fourth fdc and then went on with the rest of my 110 fdc without any more problems. So cool. Feels so much more relaxing to do for me.Ð Currently on row four of your Odds and Ends jumper which I needed the fdc for. My neurospicy brain is a fan of your way of talking, explaining and showing things. So happy! 🥳🎉 Okay now I'll stop gushing haha. Have a lovely evening.

@FrolleinMiez that's great too hear as I struggle so bad with public speaking 🙈 My words come out wrong or in the wrong order or I go completely blank and forget which word I'm trying to say! I hope I don't annoy people with my errors so it's great to hear good feedback 😆

Love this - I’ve watched your foundation single crochet video too - if I was to do a foundation hdc, would you suggest doing a chain 2 or chain 3 right at the beginning?

If you hold your hook vertically and have your work coming off the side (like a flag on a post) You can work in the top as it is the bottom of your row. the yarn tail from the start will be at the top.
