How To Make A Folding Table
This table is lightweight and portable, and folds up for easy storage. I used Cedar because it holds up well outside. This is a fun easy project that can be easily made in a day.

Hi my name is Carl Jacobson,
I started woodworking with my grandfather as a young boy. I continued woodworking through high school, and started woodturning after seeing a turned project in a friends shop. Shortly after KZread started, I was looking for a howto video for duck calls, with no results I decided to make my own video. Some of my fondest memories are working with my grandfather in his wood shop. Being able to share our passion for woodworking, ties it all together.

Thanks for sharing this project Carl. I made one for my daughter and son-in-law to take camping. She shows it to a few people she works with and next thing I know I have to make 12 more. Guess I know what I'll be doing next weekend! Thanks again...it's a great project and yes, I made a couple for myself. Take care, Steve

Hi there Carl what a fantastic table. I live in Australia and need some small outdoor tables for our constant bbq's but storage after is the problem. This seems to tick all the boxes. Do you have set of plans with cutting list?

That's pretty slick Carl! The wood looks nice with that clear on it. You have room to throw down some cardboard and break dance in there. lol

I thought a folding table would be boring and almost didn't watch the video. But, when I saw how cool it folded up, it immediately moved to the "gotta make one" list

one quick question, what keeps the legs from not popping out of the dowels? i seen some parts like the middle dowel it only has two boards so you cant glue one side or it wont swivel so what keeps it from popping out of the other leg? i have seen many done of these but they use bolts and nut but not dowels so i like this method much more but i just dont know that part in order for me to want to make it i must figure out those details hehe...oh and second why the dowels to not let the table close flush in the middle part? just wondering.

Each of the dowel have glue on one end, once you put the flat boards on the tension holds it together. You could use smaller dowels in the center I don't think it maters.

Carl I've been building these little tables for years mostly from pine and some cedar. I also build bigger ones 36"sq, or round tops 1.5" cedar they work great for outdoor dining on the sundeck. Good stuff did someone swipe your lathe??

Carl Jacobson I don't do videos but I'll see if I can get some pics for you I also make deck chairs too. They're a two piece that fit together and you can stick four of them in the trunk of a car they work well with the tables

@@CarlJacobson Thank you for your response. I have watched some of your videos and can't get over how competent you are. I love wood and have really thought about doing some projects for a long time but find it a little daunting. I guess I should just pluck up the courage and do it so I can stop asking my husband to do things for me! Thank you for being so inspiring. Kindest wishes for you from Sydney, Australia.
