The faster the reaction the hotter it gets. Watervapor will fill you balloon.

years ago in the area I grew up in, this was done with pop bottles but was not used for inflating balloons. They would take glass pop bottles with the screw on cap and put aluminum foil in it then put some Drano in, put the lid on then put it in a roadside mailbox. You can guess what happens

I think you will find drain cleaner is highly caustic, or a base liquid not an acid. This reaction as well as liberating Hydrogen gas makes a lot of heat, be careful. Ray

well, according to chemistry class this year it should work with any acid but I think the lower pH, the better as hydrocluoric acid is pretty low on the scale and is usually commonly available

using a brand name for a product is a bad idea if you want to show people something is it drain cleaner? then just call it drain cleaner with the necessary ingredient so other people can make sure that their product has the same ingredient

eXnoZEN games Not really, what causes the reaction is sodiun hydroxide + water + aluminium foil. You could buy anything that has a high concentration of sodium hydroxide in it.

i also used the same ingredients.. the balloon is also inflated.. but it is so hot.. so left it for 10 minutes... but after that the balloon size is reduced and also it did not fly... please help me

Hydrochloric acid (aka muriatic acid) at sufficient concentration, plus aluminium will also produce hydrogen gas. The salt will be different - in this case Alumimium Chloride. For your own safety, be very careful handling hydrochloric acid. Also avoid getting it on your kitchen sink - it will even corrode stainless steel.

I'm guessing you probably should not try sucking the air out of it either.

is it bad to breath that stuff in to get the weird voice, or is it the same as sucking hydrogen out of a balloon

sammy 2005 No, in fact you shouldn't use drain cleaner at all. You should make your own sodium hydroxide, also known as lye, using electrolysis.

Duff Harris That drain cleaner is hydrocloric acid, but NaOH also produces hydrogen on contact with aluminum.
