TIMESTAMPS:
00:01 - Demonstration of the effective operation of a homemade cooler for beverages. This Freezing AC cooler transforms copper pipes into ice pipes!
00:25 - Use a 4.7mm diameter copper tube!
00:45 - Wind the copper tube around a full aluminum Coca-Cola can.
01:21 - A 25mm diameter stainless steel sleeve serves as a second base for making the condenser.
02:19 - A thin copper tube with a diameter of 1.2 millimeters will serve as the capillary tube.
04:56 - Solder the capillary tube to the condenser and evaporator using special solder and flux.
05:26 - Solder a connector for a 9-volt battery to the pump and fan.
07:00 - The first stage of testing is conducted in an open area to ensure the efficient passage of liquid gas through the pipes and capillary system of the conditioner.

Issues in order of appearance : - No thermal insulation - Evaporator much bigger that the condenser - Capillar seems too short - Fan working wrong: it is blocked, and in the opposite direction (should "suck" the cold air through evaporator to the can). The best would be insulating it inside a styrofoam can with some alcohol for thermal transfer between the drink can and the evaporator. - 9V battery with very limited energy. - Zipties probably do not seal efficiently the tube, it forms a bend - Using a needle instead of an access, would generate a weak point for the silicon hose. - No minimal thermal insulation, the condenser is too near the evaporator

I was surprised when no liquid electrical tape, and not even any rubber cement, was used to cover those zipties and the part where the tube is clamped onto the pipe, to ensure an an airtight seal. In fact, I'd have carefully sealed the copper inside some liquid polymer, carefully painted along the tubes, so it fully coats them, for at least a half inch diameter on either side. For the tubes, the pump, wires, coating of liquid electrical tape.In order to keep from EXPLODING THE CAN, which such rapid and severe cooling could do, I'd have a fan blowing the cooled air into one end of a container, with several tiny exit holes drilled all over the container, to let the cooled air out in every possible direction, ensuring the can is evenly and carefully cooled all over.

It really works! This butane gas doesn't require much pressure because it's low-pressure; at 2 bars, it already becomes liquid, and it puts the gas into liquid form inside the system, helping it function for a while. As it's a low-pressure gas, this engine can easily compress it back into liquid, thus completing the cycle.

This really works even without the battery source! When the butane leaks to the air from the system, it will actually cool down. This is the latent heat of evaporation it absorbed, but ... it won't last long unless you keep pumping in the butane. 😂 Do you recall the butane can cools quickly when you refill your lighter? Just because some butane leaks and evaporates quickly, it absorbs heat from the surroundings. Also because of the leaking butane, the whole setup was moved outside to avoid build-up of dangerous inflammable gas! 😂

As a 30 year refrigeration tech I can tell you this isn’t even close to something that would cool. Isobutane is a refrigerant (R600a) and it has a boiling point of 11*F, at just room temp it’s 50psi and the silicone hoses would have blown off. Also that is a pump, not a compressor, it’s not capable of pressurizing the gas to condense it. The fan would need to be on the condenser more than the evaporator, I could go on… So my question is, knowing that this is completely fake, why spend the time to make something so stupid and spread misinformation? Are you that starved for attention?

If I were to try this, I would do three things differently. First, I would insulate the outside of the evaporator coil. As it's being used for contact-cooling of the soda can, why let it uselessly cool the surroundings? 🤦🏻‍♂️ Second, I would open up the condenser coil to form a circular array and put that against a vertically-mounted fan (or horizontally-mounted but with a good couple inches of intake air gap!). And third: if I want that to be battery-powered, I'd use at least three lithium batteries. That piddly little 9V battery with the six AAAA batteries inside can't supply much current. I wonder how many 9V batteries were needed to cool that can of soda? 😄😄

  • @julianpiper240
    @julianpiper240Ай бұрын

To get the evaporator to that temperature you need a suction pressure of -50kPa or so for R600 (butane). A head pressure of 400kPa would be a reasonable enough assumption as the condenser is a bare tube, convection cooled. That little pump can’t push that sort of compression ratio, no way. The capillary tube is far too short for this to be achievable. The capillary tube frosting up suggests either the liquid butane is undergoing a pressure drop before the capillary tube. At normal atmospheric pressure butane boils at close to 0 degrees C, just a tad under. There’s more to this system, it cannot operate correctly or efficiently as built.

That fan is doing almost nothing. Hardly even able to create static pressure. It just can't do much with how you mounted it. It's a PC fan, not a centrifugal or turbine motor. Simplest fix would be to use a blower fan, so you have an angle to work with. This is the one single thing I'd fix about this. Everything else is fantastic at this scale. Great design.

I can confirm this is a real refrigeration cycle that this person is using but, I’m not too sure of is how that Little pump he’s using as the compressor able to generate enough pressure to make the refrigeration cycle work but I do know is that frost you’re seeing is telling you the refrigeration cycle is working the style refrigeration system he has built is a capillary style refrigeration system. It’s one of the simplest refrigeration cycles ever and frost is normal even in Your refrigerator in your house It’s just you don’t see the frost because there’s a such thing called a defrost timer that shuts the Compressor off in the fridge for a few minutes And turns on a small heating element that is on the evaporator to melt the frost. It does it once a day usually in most fridges.

Ok, I read all the comments. Some I liked but the nay-sayers need to prove their opinion. This should work. The fan is not really necessary but it helps focus the cold. You conceivably use ammonia in a system like this but it would need higher compression. This would be an excellent or adequate system to build a mini-fridge or an AC unit for a Teardrop trailer. Improvements I would recommend: Pumps mounted directly to a solid surface create vibration. Vibration equals noise. Use foam rubber insulation or car door gasket material to act like a sound buffer to reduce the sound. Though this build was for a demonstration I would make a plastic enclosure for it lined inside with thin soft foam sheeting. This should also help reduce sound. A speed controller for the pump is a nice touch as would an on/off switch. And go ahead and add an on LED light. Add a power jack so you can use different power sources like a cigarette lighter, a small power supply or battery pack - all 12v DC. I hope this helps stir imaginations. I’m going to build one.

The pump being used is designed for liquids, not gasses. It can't generate 1PSI moving a gas, let along the 100+ PSI required for a refrigeration loop (using butane (R600) as the refrigerant) to function. Even if it could generate that kind of pressure, it would would blow out the silicone tubing and you would need a fan on the condenser coil too, not just the evaporator coil. The only way something like this could possibly cool a can of soda is if you instead filled the tubing with glycol and put one of the coils in a bucket of ice water. Even then, your just using the ice to remotely cool the can.

The issue is energy capacity of your cellphones battery. They do use a form of this technology inside the copper of heat pipes in opines. It's like alcohol or something under pressure in a coper tube with a coper rope inside. This allows heat to move around and rhe alcohol will condense back to liquid when it touches a cooler area. I'm not sure you could put a compressor in a phone without thay fkn humming 😂
