    You are SO talented! What amazing work! And I love the tricks with the safety pins at the end! It is always so hard to get the duvet into its cover! How would you take a King-sized duvet cover and cut it to make it into a double? Also, take the leftover fabric to make two double pillows? I bought a smaller bed and I'd like to repurpose the old bedding. Thanks!

    Teresa, so right you are! Im wondering if the crafty-type vid presenters are very lonely ppl or just dont have a clue as to how to do a professional job? Probably just me but i could also do wo the music. Anything that distracts from the learning process should be eliminated. We can always switch to musical vids if we want that medium, eh?

    This was a great video! There’s so many variations you can do too like buttons instead of snaps. But I wouldn’t put the pins in, even with tape. I actually would put on the inside some fabric to tie the comforter. Like on each corner, sew in some fabric to tie the blanket in place. You can hand sew it or with the machine. I find this method so much easier and safer

    Excellent presentation! Im making a duvet cover now w a big India wall hanging (Yin&Yang) and a piece of heavy flannel I had for wh I could never find a use. Was looking for a way to close it up here. Fabrics were big enough, just had to piece the flannel. Center seam was ok as it was the back (more snuggly). Folded the flannel and surged it together. Easy, quick, and fun. Today i sew front ti bacj, adf closures and loops for tying and im ready when a cooler night comes along. YAY, ME!

    I really don't enjoy buttonholes for duvet covers, so using the snap tape you suggested will make it so much easier! I like how you started off the tutorial by not only stating, but showing the supplies needed to make this. Oh my! This is just THE tutorial I wanted to see for how to make a duvet cover. Your method and instructions for matching the prints on the fabric was my favorite tip. I also like the French seams and how simple it was to use the snap tape vs. other methods (for me anyhow). And showing how attractive it can be to use reversible coordinating fabrics at 8:46 was like putting a cherry on top of a classic sundae desert. Your instructions, the camera work, close-ups, and editing were just topnotch. I think I better check out a few more of your channel's YT videos and your website. Thank you so much. I just checked out the link on your website you gave in the description below the video title for detailed instructions written out - terrific!

    + DeBee Archilla - At 0:20 she did mention sheeting fabric as an option as well as decor fabric and quilting weight cottons. I've also been able to find very inexpensive decor fabric in the clearance area of some fabric stores. Some thread counts of sheets can be QUITE expensive, but yes, they can also be inexpensive or if one doesn't normally use flat sheets they become free if you've purchased a sheet set(s) just for the bottom fitted sheet and pillow cases.

    Good video with clear instructions, and I especially like that you used French seams. But, I was really surprised and disappointed that you suggested using safety pins to secure the comforter inside the duvet, instead of showing how to include ties in the corners; it would be so simple to do and so much better when you're going to the trouble to make a custom duvet cover. Many comforters these days (especially down comforters) alreaady have loops at each corner for that very purpose and if you're using safety pins you're putting holes in the comforter where down or other filling can come out.

    Thanks for the simple tutorial! If I wanted to add ties to the corners to secure the duvet instead of using a pin, they would be added at the first French seam step, correct? Long end sandwiched inward with a short little edge sticking out while the correct fabric sides are facing outward? Then the short edge of tie would be encased along with the raw fabric edges at the next inside-out step? Hope I’m explaining clearly. Thanks for the help!

    What i do to keep my doona from moving in the cover is i sew cotton tape about 15cm in each corner and half way on each side giving you eight points of conection doing the same to my doona as well. I lay my cover on my bed inside out tie the doona to the cover with a bow then i roll it as i go making sure one side of the cover is left out then all you do is turn right side out and unroll snap bottom together and you done.

    The duvet cover in this video was made for a full bed, but there isn't a standard duvet size for full beds. It's best to measure your own duvet insert and add 2 inches to the width and 3 inches to the length. You can see the dimensions I used here: www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/how-to-make-a-duvet-comforter-cover/

    Hello, I don’t know if you’ll ever see this comment but I really want to know how do we prewash the fabric in the beginning? Do we just stick the roll of fabric into the washing machine? Is that it?

    So... Was the bonding tape used to attach the side panels to the center panel? Sorry, just confused.

  • @onlinefabricstore

    @onlinefabricstore

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi Marielle, The bonding tape is used to more accurately match up the pattern. They are sewn together after the pattern is matched up. But you could just use the bonding tape here, or you don't have to use it, especially for solid fabrics. If you don't use it, we suggest finishing the raw edge in some way, like a serger or a zig zag stitch, or you can do a French seam like how the front and back pieces are sewn together.

    Can you show us how to put Velcro tabs on the end of the duvet in the opening? How far down from the opening, how wide of tabs, how many, how many inches between each one?

  • @onlinefabricstore

    @onlinefabricstore

    4 жыл бұрын

    There's not a right or wrong way to do the Velcro. I would probably do one continuous strip just like the snap tape because that's the easiest way to do it. If I were to do Velcro tabs, I'd probably make them about 2" to 4" wide with 4" to 6" gaps in between. Fold the bottom edges of the cover in 1" twice just like in the video before sewing the Velcro on.

    After cutting the 17.5" (or whatever the amount is to get the correct width for your duvet), I just double checked the height and cut off any extra. Then the next thing is the snap tape, so no sewing between the 17.5" and snap tape.

    I saw on other videos where they didn't have to add extra for length. Please explain. Did you have to do this because of the pattern of material or because the material is shorter length or both? For plain long solid color material, would you just cut to size of comforter and add your 2+3 for length and width?

  • @onlinefabricstore

    @onlinefabricstore

    7 жыл бұрын

    This was for a full bed, but the number of yards would probably be the same for a queen. I used just over 5 yards for each side (54" wide fabric). You may be fine with 5 yards each if your fabric is solid or has a smaller vertical repeat. We have a bit more info about sizing in our written instructions: www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/how-to-make-a-duvet-comforter-cover/

    The duvet cover is to keep the duvet clean. Cleaning a duvet is expensive and can easily lead to damaging the interior feathers. So the duvet cover can be removed, laundered and then put back over the duvet to protect it again.

    Hi Stephanie, A king size duvet is generally about 104 x 90 inches, but it varies by the manufacturer. If you already have a duvet, measure it and add 2" to the length and 3" to the length. Other that that, same instructions.
