How to Make a DIY Propane Fire Pit Easy for $45!

In episode 155 of Truck House Life, I'll show you how to make a cheap propane fire pit. Only cost me about $45 in parts to make this fire pit. This is perfect if there is a burn ban, as propane firepits are typically still allowed in burn bans.

I love that you put on Teflon tape to stop propane from leaking out of the pipe that you drilled holes in so the propane can leak out. Ba ha ha. Love you buddy.

I did the same but with schedule 80 pipe. What I had laying around. I used a 10x10 electrical box with lid to hold in my lava rocks. Oh most importantly "white"Teflon tape * sarcasm *. It's not being inspected by the city just a camping fire pit.

Really neat idea, and kudos for presenting a fun and useful DIY project. But I would recommend replacing the galvanized tubing with something else. Maybe copper. Galvanized metal gives off zinc oxide when hot, which is pretty toxic. Same thing with the bucket. Maybe splurge and get a stainless one instead of the galvanized?

You can soak galvanized items in vinegar for 24 hours and most of it will come right off. Then just paint it with high temp spray paint to keep it from rusting.

If you want to have some fun with it (with or without the cinders), seal up around your bucket penetrations and fill with water to slightly above the pipe level. The propane flames will dance around on the surface of the water -- toss in some ice cubes (optional) and then you've got "fire and ice". :)

Teflon on galvanize , or black iron pipe (they have a tapered thread to make the seal ) is not for sealing the connection. It is anti-seize tape, which replaced anti seize compound back in the late s or early. It is amazing how the real purpose of things gets lost over time.

Good job. FYI however, there is a Teflon tape made especially for gas applications. Its a yellow(ish) color. Gas will decay the white Teflon (water usage) tape you used and leak after a while. I would consider replacing the white for yellow gas tape in the near future.
