    Love when he said to be mindful of locking yourself in the coop. ***Flashbacks to my 2 year old shutting the coop door while I was inside cleaning it*** lucky he figured out how to open the latch because I wasn't getting out of it otherwise 🤣🤣🤣

    Absolutely beautiful design. If you ever make another have a window in your door or 2 small ones above the nesting box. Chickens cooped up during winter need natural light to lay eggs. (So I've been told) Also they really need ventilation in a coop so they recommend the windows with hardware cloth so you can open them for a cross breeze. Love your coop design. So classy.

    Thank you very much! There is a window above the nesting box and small door at the run for cross ventilation 👍🏻👍🏻. The window is closed in the thumbnail though so it's kind of difficult to see. Thank you very much for watching and commenting! So glad you love it 😃😃

    Gate Latch Fix: 1. Drill a small hole in wall...above latch. 2. Feed a 18" long wire through hole and tie off to hole in top of latch. 3. Bend wire inside into loop and wind wire onto itself to fix. If door closes and latches.. pull wire.. simple.

    I bought the plans from you. So many questions. You could sit down and re- write. The 45 cuts to start. Take a look. Very confusing to someone building for first time. I figured it out but could have wasted a ton of material. Also the roof peaks, they aim toward run, so during rain the building dumps rain in the run and on nesting box area. I modified a gutter system. Finally, measurements of boards in the plans were confusing. Maybe make more detailed notes as to why boards are shorter in some cases 54.8 vs 55 3/8 for example. I could not grasp this and cut all same length at 55 3/8. In work now, will see how all turns out.

    I really love the way you designed this coop, the way it looks and how easy you made the build and I wanted to build this exact coop. But problem is I am not sure about how to add a roof and eave vents. Any suggestions?

  • @WoodshopMike

    @WoodshopMike

    2 жыл бұрын

    For the roof vent just cut through the sheathing whenever you want the vent to be. For a ridge vent you will have to extend the overhang, a soffit on the underside and install the vents there.

    @@alyssaespinoza6284 Hi, I bought all of the lumber at once in January, mid-COVID, so my total for the lumber alone was over $900. I made several modifications to the original plans, including a dutch door, windows, and window boxes, so several additional materials were needed. I estimate that after lumber, roofing material, paint, hardware cloth, etc my project totaled somewhere between $1500-2000.

    I wanted to start a chicken colony as I like to call it. I bought a small 8x8 shed from Lowes for 1100.00 IT arrives unassembled. Its all cheap wood and bent 2x4s. None of the wood is marked or cut to shape from the factory. I was floored. I then tried to get it assembled...they dont assemble it if you buy the shed first....I called the store and they were amazing and picke dit up and returned my money. After purchasing the plans and building this coop there were several issues: there are no actual instructions to the plans, just dimensions and a cut list. The instructions come from this video and this video is difficult to follow as it’s sped up and differs from how the plans are done. Dimensions are often measured to 16th of an inch, or odd degrees on the miter, such as 33.5 degrees. The coop is only large enough for about 6 chickens and not 12, it’s 25’ sqft and each chicken needs about 4’sqft. However it’s very pretty when done.

    Hi Erik, Thank you again for purchasing the plans and I'm glad you like the finished product! The bird total was based on the number of nesting boxes. As I understand it 3-4 birds can share a box. Hope you enjoy your coop! Regards, Mike

    Hi Timmy, I'm in the south so frozen chicken isn't an issue around here. I've had people build this coop all over the country though and I know some folks will use "hen house heaters" in the winter months to keep their birds from freezing. Best of luck and if you build one I'd love to hear how it turns out! Cheers, Mike
