How to make a custom globe for your lantern using a Vinyl Stencil and Media Blaster (AKA Sandblaster). Pretty simple to do and you can get set up for under $100.00 (if you already have a compressor)

Looks good, have you tried any with etching cream for glass? Thanks for the video.

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I have tried but the results are not as good as bead blasting. Globes have a temper on them that makes it hard to chemical etch. Perhaps if I got a stronger etch it may work better but I’m not sure what that would do to the vinyl.

You could put the date of lantern on it.

Could you use this method to frost the globe so that the light is not so harsh?

Yes, it works great. Some people just do a band at the same height as the mantle. Cheers.

Does your box ever get basted so you can’t see?

It does get hazy but I can still see. The vent out the back helps a lot. If you are doing a big job you may have to stop and let the duct settle. It also helps to keep the box clean of media.
Is there a company that makes custom globes?

Not that I’m aware of. There are few people in the USA that make custom globes for people. They are typically found in the Coleman collector groups on Facebook or try the Coleman Collectors Forum.
What do you do about copyrighting. Just asking .

Yes, this can be a concern if you intend to profit from this. This is meant for personal usage only.
Coleman globes are becoming very scarce...anyone customising and cutting globes to fit unintended models of Coleman lanterns?
